Sprinkler question

This is our first spring/summer in our home - in ground sprinklers were already installed when we bought it. There's 9 zones, and each is set for a half hour. The property is typical nassau - 100 x 50 feet give or take. I don't remember my parents' sprinkler system taking 4.5 hours! Not to mention our water bill was through the roof. Just wondering what the norm (# zones, amt of time, etc.) is for everyone else on here. TIA.

Re: Sprinkler question

We have 4 zones.
Zone 1=20minutes
Zone 2=40 minutes
Zone 3=40 minutes
Zone 4=20 minutes
4:30 am to 6:30 am / odd days

Property is 80x100 but we only have the front and side (corner property) with inground sprinklers. We never did the yard....DH waters it himself.

Re: Sprinkler question

I am in Nassau and we have a larger corner property as well (front, side and back) and have 7 zones. We set the sprinklers at like, 1 or 2am because the water pressure in our house really stinks so I need the sprinklers to be off by the time I wake up to shower in the morning. Each zone is 30 min but then some parts of our grass started dying (lawn is in direct sun) so we increased 2 zones to 45 min. Our water bill is very high in the summer, the area where we live is serviced by a private water company. My BIL who lives like 3 miles from me has water through his town/county and pays like $40 or something cheap like that. Our last water bill for April/May was $130... so yeah the next two months will prob be even higher.

Sprinkler question

I apparently have the smallest sprinkler system on Long Island
Property - 100x100
4 zones - front left, front right, rear left, rear right. Side yards don't need it.
start at 4am, each zone 30 minutes, 1 zone I run a 2nd time in the afternoon because it has new plantings.

Re: Sprinkler question

Thanks. I think I will see if the sprinkler co. has some sort of schematic with the zones and see if we can cut down on some

Re: Sprinkler question

I have 7 zones. They run between 5 minutes and 25 minutes depending on what they are watering. I also have very low pressure in my house. I believe they go off around 3pm.

Sprinkler question

Wow that's a lot of zones for that property size. I have a bigger property corner and we have I believe 6 zones and each zone is set for 30 minutes on even days. Ours start at 9pm at night.
