Re: 'Star-Spangled Banner' in Spanish Draws Criticism----What Do You Think?

I am curious to know that IF the anthem is recorded or performed against the "rules" of interpretation (or whatever they call it) what exactly happens to the composer or writer or performer? Is there a fine? Jail time? Just curious. Not looking to ruffle feathers.
No, there are no fines or jail time, however, just like people don't use the flag to wash their cars or wipe their mouth with, they shouldn't change the words or the message of the National Anthem. It's a Code of Ethics for the performance of the national anthem, not laws.

Now, to further complicate the matter...people are getting pissy because they changed the song....however, the national anthem was actually just a poem that was written by Francis Scott Key, and then it was set to a very popular British song call Anacreon in Heaven, so we already stole the song

Why are you ruffling my feathers? J/K!
I don't know...good question. Let me google it!
I think a good punishment would be listening to BUSH sing it with Condi as a background singer and Cheney and Rumsfeld twirling like the Temptations!

Many things in English are not directly, word for word, easily translated into Spanish. It doesnt always make sense in Spanish to do it that way. So I would imagine the words would have to be changed but not the meaning or sentiment.

Re: 'Star-Spangled Banner' in Spanish Draws Criticism----What Do You Think?
Honestly, I will stick to what I said originally......most Americans have no idea that the "Star Spangled Banner" is even our national anthem. Most people polled this it's "God Bless America", so I find it interesting that now all these people have a problem with it being translated into spanish. I don't really have an opinion on it being translated, I have more of an opinion on the fact that most Americans don't even know what the anthem is, and if they do, they couldn't recite the whole thing if they tried.

EXACTLY!!! Only when it's convinient do some people jump to a defense! They had a poll on some show to have "Americans" sing the national anthem and many did not even know the words.

Just for the record. I know the anthem in English, but I sing it rather poorly. Will I get deported?

WellI surely hope they deport me to a Spanish-speaking country. I know the language! I took Spanish in college to avoid having to take math.
Though I took math eventually because I HAD to.
