I think a good punishment would be listening to BUSH sing it with Condi as a background singer and Cheney and Rumsfeld twirling like the Temptations!
Ok, but only if they wear tutus!

I think people are making too many assumptions. I seriously doubt that we would be attending a baseball game and sit out because our national anthem is being sung in another language.
There is no way in he!! this is going to happen. We have had no woman president yet...and now a Spanish sung anthem. Never going to happen.
Would you have thought 10 years ago that there would be such a serious influx of immigrants (Im going Illegal here) that they would be able to bring together thousands of supporters to march on OUR streets to demand something of OUR government? I think it's just a matter of where will it end. Just my thoughts.

Re: 'Star-Spangled Banner' in Spanish Draws Criticism----What Do You Think?
Immigrants have been coming to America by the thousands. Ever since this country was established. Isn't that it's bassis? They are demanding legalization. They are not demanding welfare or food stamsp or government aid. They want to be here legally. YES there is a problem because the border is out of control. But I have lived the experience therefore I speak from expirience. Some of my family members like many others and unlike so many were given the right to live in this great country legally. Again like a previous poster had stated, who is at fault here? The large companies that purposely hire illegal imigrants so that their pockets get fatter. Or those that come here to look for a better way of life.
If I sit here and drive mysef nuts about where things will end, I will go insane. Where will the fight against terrorisim end? The Bird Flu dilema, the fight against drugs and human traffiiking???? Child abuse?? Where and when will these things end????

sorry...i understand what you are saying but we have laws for a reason. If they want to be in the country legally, then go through the processes that are required to do so legally...

Re: 'Star-Spangled Banner' in Spanish Draws Criticism----What Do You Think?
Bottom line...this is an english speaking country...it should be sung in english. People who come here should learn english. How can we do business and relate to each other if we can't speak to each other? I can't tell you how many business opportunities I've lost because I can't communicate with someone because they can't speak the language. I work with a Cuban woman who came here years ago. She learned the language on her own by watching TV and reading english books. She uses spanish in her house, but her daughter was taught english first, then spanish. She is successful because she can communicate with everyone. That is the way it should be. JMHO

Re: 'Star-Spangled Banner' in Spanish Draws Criticism----What Do You Think?
I dont really see the big deal. Its not like the Spanish version is going to become the "National" anthem.. so who cares what language its sung in? we sing other countries songs and anthems in English.. its not like we're making them adopt the English version as their Standard for their Anthem.
The only thing thats weird to me, is WHY theres the need for it. the united states IS a melting pot... almost everyone here (whether first generation or 6th generation) is from another country, yet, there's no Italian, German, French, etc... version of the anthem... why does there have to be a Spanish one?
but, IMHO... its just a bunch of artists producing a song-- Not a Patriotic anthem adopted by the Government as an Official anthem of the country.

Personally I don't mind the fact that they are singing it in spanish but I do mind that it sounds like crap.

Re: 'Star-Spangled Banner' in Spanish Draws Criticism----What Do You Think?
I don't really see what people are so up in arms about (not on this site, just in general). No one's saying that it should or must be sung side by side with the English version. Why hasn't there been one in German, french, Greek, etc? No market. The spanish version will sell because there are SO many spanish speaking americans, they're going to buy the CD. Why not let people who want to take pride in our country do so in their own language? if that brings the message of pride closer to home and closer to their hearts, I'm all for it. It doesn't hurt me, it doesn't hurt anyone. And as far as I know English is NOT the official language of our Country, so there's actually no way we can say people should learn english, because that's not a legal requirement, nor can it be unless and until English is made our "official" language.. That's another story altogether though, and another debate.

my thoughts... they're already marching with their country's flag while trying to prove they love America so go ahead, sing it in Spanish.
some people have an identity disorder. IMO

Well, if they became legal, can't they THEN get food stamps, and government aid? Of course immigrants have been coming here by the thousands since the beginning of our country, but I know all of my relatives learned English once they became citizens, so did my SO's. I don't blame them for coming here, I know if this country was in an economic slum I would hop any border to get a better life, but you better believe I would teach myself how to learn the country's language, and I damn sure wouldn't march down their streets waving my flag demanding citizenship from their government. I'm sorry, but if no one else sees what making hundreds of thousands of illegal immigrants will do to our country, we are in bigger trouble than I thought. Just my two cents. ::back to lurking::
