Starting Cereal Tomorrow!!! A few questions...
When you first started your DCs, did you try feeding cereal before or after the bottle? Right before or right after the bottle or like an hour before (or after) the bottle? What did you find worked best? I am actually excited! I can't believe she is already at this stage - and I waited it out, she'll be 5 mo on Monday Thanks for your help/suggestions!

Re: Starting Cereal Tomorrow!!! A few questions...
We just started 2 weeks ago. It is fun, you're going to love it! At first, you might get a lot more all over her face / hands / chest / the floor than down her throat, but that's okay. Oh, and be sure to praise her when she opens wide and swallows from the spoon. We smile and cheer her on for the first few bites and she gets really excited to keep going.
My ped told us to feed her twice a day, any time of day, right before BFing. So that's what we do. It's usually the 2nd feeding and the 2nd-to-last. She LOVES eating the cereal and gulps it all down and cries when it's over, so I nurse her right afterwards.
Have fun!

Re: Starting Cereal Tomorrow!!! A few questions...
Many people feed cereal after a bottle, but my ped had us do it before because he said she should be hungry. Now, almost 2 months later, I space out her meals and her bottles because I find she doesn't drink as much if her meals are too close. Try it both ways maybe and see what works for your DC.
Good luck!!

We do it before the bottle otherwise he won't eat it. In the beginning we also had to make sure he wasn't too hungry otherwise he would not have the patience for cereal and just cried for the bottle. Have fun and good luck!

I always offered it 30-60 minutes after. I was BFing and felt that it was more important to get the BM. Food is really just for practice at that age.

We started before DSs second bottle, around 11am. This, at the suggestion of the manual that came with the Baby Bullet.

Baby foods in the first year are just for practice. Breastmilk/formula is the most important thing as far as nutrition goes so they should be given first.

I agree. You can wait a little while after nursing/bottle so they get a little hungry. LO should be hungry, but not too hungry because they will also get frustrated.

Success!
I tried it before the second bottle. I had the bottle ready just in case she freaked because it frustrated her. We didn't do it for long and she kept more in her mouth than I expected! She was so confused and gagged a couple of times, but all in all a fun experience for all of us! Tomorrow I will try it after the bottle and see what happens!
