starting milk

In a couple of weeks DD will start milk. My ped said she can go right from formula to milk without really a transition. I am a bit nervous that this will mess with her stomach if I don't mix the two for a bit. Did anyone go right to milk? How did your DC adjust to it?

Re: starting milk

we mixed for maybe 5 days. babies...all humans in fact are not really supposed to or dont have the stomachs for cows milk, so the first few days , there will be an adjustment. For us it was diarrhea, but it went away after about 3 days.

Re: starting milk

I did it gradually. For an 8 oz bottle I did 7 oz formula and one oz milk and then gradually increased the ozs of milk until it hit 8 oz.

This helps ease the transition.

Re: starting milk

Vincent will be ONE on Sept 20th

He stopped drinking formula .. he just refused to drink it. He was down to 7-10 oz per day (with 3-4 oz of those going into his cereal)

So we switched him to milk last Wednesday. Cold Turkey. Ice Cold Organic Whole Milk. He's back up to drinking 16-18oz per day.

No issues at all.

Re: starting milk

I didn't mix, i just started giving 1 bottle of whole milk instead of her naptime bottle and just slowly switched them out.

My ped told me to go straight to milk too. I ended up switching one bottle out, then another etc. I did it over about 1-2 weeks.

Re: starting milk

Bella is on Gentlease like Christopher right? I plan to mix since the formula has reduced lactose. I just want to make sure his tummy is ok with the full lactose.

This is also a concern of mine. That is why I was thinking of mixing a bit first.

We did the same thing. At first, she wouldn't drink the bottle- like she didn't like the taste.

Now, we are fully on milk- this is our 2nd day fully on milk. At least 1 poop per day has been really hard- but usually the 1 or 2 other poops per day are "normal"

ETA: DD was on Alimentum- and I was really worried about transitioning to milk- but it seems like its all going well!
