Re: Starting solids.....do you give less bottles?
The ped was so "vague" about this. They said he would wean himself out.
Well, only after 2 months of eating baby food did I notice that he was not finishing all his bottles anymore after I feed him.
He still loves his milk though. I usually give him a small bottle after a meal, but those bottles are not always finished.
His bottles between meals with no food are taken completely.

Re: Starting solids.....do you give less bottles?
My ped is saying to give a bottle first thing in the AM and then cereal 2 hours later and one other time during the day, so it seems as if DS won't get a bottle with solids.....
Is this correct?

I think everyone does it differently....We always did cereal and then a bottle afterwards...

The doc said DS may not be interested in cereal first thing, so to give him a bottle....but I can't see him eating cereal 1-2 hours later if I keep his bottles the same size.......
time for another experiment!

Re: Starting solids.....do you give less bottles?
My dr recommended starting cereal between bottles. 1-2 hours after a bottle. I always did that. With my first son - he took that and never really cut back much on bottles. My second son - cut back drastically (maybe not when we first started just cereal but definitely as he ate more cereal and added a jar of fruit. In general though, he has little interest in bottles. I think it is one of those things you kind of just feel it out.

Re: Starting solids.....do you give less bottles?
In the beginning the cereal should not substitute any formula.
We gave cereal and an hour later a bottle. If he had a bottle first he would be full - and not want the cereal.
ETA: I didn't find that until Jack was eating three full meals a day (meats, veggies, etc) did he start to cut down on the formula.

Re: Starting solids.....do you give less bottles?
My peds didnt say anything. I kept her on same amt. I only give her 1 cereal feeding as of now a day, I figure if she doesnt want it, she will stop on her own. She pretty much does. I like when she lives a little in bottle, that way i know shes full.

Re: Starting solids.....do you give less bottles?
I was told that as long as he was still getting between 20-24oz of formula per day I could feed him as much (solids) as he wanted....
At almost 7 months Caden is still getting about 40oz per day..I think it is time to change things up a bit. (that's on top of 3 meals per day)

Re: Starting solids.....do you give less bottles?
My Dr. was very vague on this as well. So I nurse her first thing in the morning and feed cereal 2 hours later. I usually have that replace the boob. Then I pump and give her a big bottle 3-4 hours later (because she is now taking a bottle, Thank you, God!). I guess it's whatever works for your baby.

Re: Starting solids.....do you give less bottles?
At the beginning give the same amount. They are just learning to eat from a spoon and don't really get much in. Once he gets the hang of it then yes.
I started with cereal at night. I didn't have time in the morning since I work. His last bottle is usually at 8 so at 7:30 we gave cereal and sips from the bottle. After he was done it was bath time and when he gets out he has the rest of the bottle.

Re: Starting solids.....do you give less bottles?
Chris always got a 7-8 bottle at 6-7am
Then about 9:30-10:00 cereal followed by a bottle (i didnt change the amount--just let him drink what he wanted)
1:30 veggie/cereal and bottle
5:30 dinner & bottle
4 bottle a day is still standard at Gavin's age. Let him dictate how much he wants to drink--no more than 32 oz is the key

Is this correct? See this is what kills me about the whole feeding thing
I can't usually give a bottle or food 2 hours later...HE IS ASLEEP

Re: Starting solids.....do you give less bottles?
I was told to still feed on demand. I give him the cereal when he is hungry, so a little before a bottle. He is doing great this way.
