starting the process - SO many questions...
DH and I have been trying for #2 for a year now and after a few unsucessful rounds of clomid with my OB. She did monitor me and took blood and being this is how I got pregnant with DD, we thought we'd give it anothet try). Unfortunately, AF still comes as scheduled! So, we're going to see an RE. I have NO idea what to expect and am hoping you ladies can give me answers/advice.
I'm out of my mind nervouse about this whole process...for a multitude of reasons - money (although our insurance covers up to $10k), the actual process and the unknown about what's going to happen, taking time off work, medications I would have to take, and my worse fear of me not being able to have another child. I know some of these are irrational fears, but just how i'm feeling - I am sure that you all understand. DH thinks that i'm crazy for feeling this way.
Anyway...We're thinking about going to LI IVF in Melville - any particular doctor we should see?
How far in advance should I make the first appointment. DH is having a minor surgery in a few weeks, and I wanted to wait until he's healed to go. Should I make an appointment now or is it too soon?
at what point in my cycle should i make the appointment for - first few days, mid cycle, etc? does it even matter initially?
What should we expect as at the initial appointments?
Sorry for all the questions, as you can tell, i have NO idea what i'm in for! TIA for any advice you may have...

Re: starting the process - SO many questions...
You will find this site so helpful to ease your fears. For everything you worry about, there are a bunch of girls who have gone through it and have advice for you. My first appt with the RE was just a consultation and then I went back for bloodwork and sono on day 3. HTH!

Re: starting the process - SO many questions...
I know how you feel. I think once you see a RE you will feel relieved. I'm just starting this process as well. I had my first RE appointment last week. I scheduled my appointment on CD3 - they did an internal sono and took bloodwork and I'll be starting IUI this cycle. You should bring all test results (pap, bloodwork, etc). My obgyn had sent me for a HSG and my DH for a SA so I brought those results as well. In terms of costs. My insurance doesn't cover anything. AT RSONY they have a "global" plan that covers your first visit, monitoring, and the IUI. Good luck!

Re: starting the process - SO many questions...
its totally normal to feel this way!! I would make the appointment for now so that you can discuss protocol with your doctor. Based on your cycle and preliminary testing, you may not be able to start right away anyway.
I go to LI IVF and see Dr Brenner. I would def recommend him. Dr Kennigberg is also awesome. His book was really helpful-the baby solution.
good luck!!

it is def a lot when starting out, this websitye is amazing!
first..if it just a consult u r starting off with make it for anytime
i would do that just to get any questions out of the way..
they will have u come back any time between cd3-5 for blood and sono to begin whatever treatment u need
has ur dh ever had a SA or u a hsg bc they might want u to get those done

Re: starting the process - SO many questions...
I've also started the process at LI IVF as well, and am seeing Dr. Droesch. She took all the time we needed to explain everything to us, what our plan is, and really put my mind at ease and makes me feel I'll have my BFP in no time.
For the initial consultation, I went and gave blood, then Dr, Droesch sat and spoke with my DH and I. She went over our history, explained my blood test results from my obgyn, and discussed what she feels may be our issues (I do not ovulate). She did an internal sonogram to check out my lining and ovaries, and advised me to begin provera and lose weight before she prescribes me Clomid. In April, we'll be doing a medicated IUI, and depending on how that goes, we will do 2 more of those before going straight to IVF (fingers crossed we get lucky our first time!!)
Good Luck, and FM me if you have any questions or wanna talk

Re: starting the process - SO many questions...
pretty much what the other girls said. make the initial consulation anytime and get any tests they want done out of the way so that on your next cycle, you can begin working on the plan they give you
