What does everyone like there?

I went for the first time this weekend and I found the prices to be ridiculously high, particularly the meat. I buy meat at Iavarone normally and Stew’s prices were almost double for what I usually buy.

But, I don’t mind paying more for anything that is really exceptional so please share your favorites!

The prices there are high, but you can get good quality meats for a good price when it's on sale. Other than that, we will pick up a fun dessert, for example, when we're going to someone's house. I'll get produce there sometimes b/c the quality is good, but it's not cheap. We never buy staples there. We probably go to SL 4 times a year.

Re: Stew Leonard’s

Buy the sales, otherwise the prices are high, especially for grocery items.
We shop there every other week.

On a regular basis, we buy
- cage free eggs
- milk
- fresh salmon (I buy the whole piece, cut it up and freeze individual portions)
- produce
- fresh mozzarella
- meats when on sale
- sometimes the macaroni and potato salads, cole slaw.
This week my cart held 3 cases of Refresca, a new flavored malt beverage from Corona that taste real good. Darn those samplers.

On a non-Stew's week, we go to North Shore Farms for produce.
Shop Rite when my pantry staples run low, so once every 6 - 8 weeks.
DH goes to a local deli for cold cuts, they cut it better.

Interesting that you thought the meat was more expensive than Iavarone.I find the opposite to be true.
I really like the steaks at Stew Leonard’s. I do buy whatever type of steak are on sale that week, otherwise they are expensive. I particularly like their porterhouses. Their organic milk is cheaper than other places. There produce is expensive for the most part, except for the sale items. Basic groicery items I only buy out of convenience. I like most of their bakery items.

I agree they're pricey and tend to stick to the sale items but I do think the quality of anything I buy there is better than my local grocery chains. Most of their bakery items are good and the hot bar and pre-made food is typically pretty good too.

I also really love their fresh orange juice and lemonades.

I usually get bakery items (apple cider donut holes are yum!), rice rolls, my dh likes the BLT salad, their balsamic ranch salad dressing.
