Storage solutions
DH and I have a small home and I've tried everything to be inventive when it comes to storing/organizing things but I still feel like we are busting at the seams.
We don’t have a basement or garage which doesnt help either.
For those of you who have smaller homes, how do you organize/store things?

Re: Storage solutions
Do you have an attic?
Before I moved in July, we had a smaller house, although we had a basement.
Limit what you have, don't go price club crazy, you don't have the room to store it.
Organize your closets, put in shelves above the hanging rod and bins on the floor.
dressers - we had a dresser in the spare room for linens(since we didn't have a linin closet)
Shed- assuming you own your home, get a shed. We had an 8x12 wood shed which was great for storing any outdoor equipment, bikes, etc. Put shelves in it from the begining so you start organized. You can also consider keeping rubbermaid bins on shelves in there for excess items.
make sure items you buy have a need and a use. Our captains bed had 6 drawers

Re: Storage solutions
There are so many clever ways to store things in furniture or objects you have on display in your rooms, if you don't have good closet space, or an attic, basement, or garage. In other words, find a functional use for something that also fits your style/decor or has another purpose in a room beyond just storage alone. For example:
My friend only really has her formal living room for her kids to play in. She has a beautiful old china cabinet in that room, and she stores her kids toys and games in the drawers when they are not using them!
In our office/guest room, we have a futon that pulls out into a full sized bed, but when it is in the couch position, you can store pillows and blankets under the seats. We have an old file cabinet in that same room where we store papers and documents, but we have a nice tablecloth over it and a lamp on it, so it serves as a sort of nightstand/side table.
I use a storage ottoman as a coffee table in my den (the top cover flips over to be a tray top for serving), and I can keep extra throw blankets and pillows in there or whatever items I want for the den that I don't want out in plain view.
I have a pretty big kitchen, but not as much counter and cabinet space as I would like, so I have a nice sideboard/buffet type of piece in the eat-in area. I keep my microwave and Kitchen Aid mixer on top, but there is so much storage underneath for extra baking dishes, pans, small appliances.

Re: Storage solutions
1/ Purge 2/ Buy multi purpose furniture (bed with drawers underneath, storage ottoman, side table with doors/drawers) 3/ Make a wall to wall closet by take about 2/3 ft out of a room. 4/ If you have slopped ceilings in upstairs, open up the bottom part of the wall to add storage 5/ Store vertically as much as possible. Especially in garage.
