Stupid new boy mom question re: changing diapers
As many of you know, I have two DDs, now a newborn DS. We didn't know what we were having, so when he was born EVERYBODY we knew said, "Look out! You need to cover that thing up during changes!" And then proceeded to regale us with tales of urine on clothing, walls, and even faces.
Two months later, and I don't think I've ever even seen the penis since I'm covering it up instantly.
When do we need to stop doing this? Ever?

Re: Stupid new boy mom question re: changing diapers
If I remember correctly, after a few months, it wasn't much of a problem. I also think as the weather warms up and they aren't as cold on the changing table, it was less of an issue too.

Re: Stupid new boy mom question re: changing diapers
I kept a wipe/washcloth over it for at least 4-5 months. I got sprayed one too many times in the beginning. He's 19 months now & I don't think there's a lot of risk now, but I'm sure I could still get sprayed at any time

Re: Stupid new boy mom question re: changing diapers
luckily DS isnt a pee'er during changes. its happened less than a handful of times and i think mostly when my mom changes him (i think she takes too long)..
once on the wall, once on me, once in his own face (and mouth )
i let him air his stuff out too... i guess we are lucky in this respect!

To the OP, DS has peed on occasion up to 2 years old, but that is if I didn't put the diaper on fast enough. I think he stopped spraying randomly around 9 months old.

Re: Stupid new boy mom question re: changing diapers
DS really doesn't pee during diapers changes. 2-3 times, maybe? I remember the first time it happened - he was a week old or so - peed up in the air, over my shoulder, onto the floor behind me I honestly have been peed on like once. I never really bothered trying to cover it up!

Re: Stupid new boy mom question re: changing diapers
I think around 6 months the urgency left and he stopped peeing everywhere when the diaper came off!

OMG it got in my DS's mouth too once
his peeing during a diaper change has gotten A LOT less than it was in the very begining & DS is 3 months

Re: Stupid new boy mom question re: changing diapers
its happened a couple times- one time he shot himself in the face which was hysterical
but usually when I change him, I just make sure its pointed down- we use disposable changing pad covers so the couple times that he's done it I just changed the pad- no biggie- but I think the area does need to get air lol

Ditto. I think like 3 times he's peed during a diaper change. And it waterfalled over the side of the changing table.

The first 3 months were rough. Now he rarely does it....or maybe I am just super quick. So different from girls!

Re: Stupid new boy mom question re: changing diapers
I actually just noticed this the other day...
DS has sprayed in probably about a month or so. He's 3.5 months. It used to be that he would do it at least once a day

Re: Stupid new boy mom question re: changing diapers
I haven't gotten peed on since he was like 4 months old.
Watch, I'll get hosed down tomorrow.
I just do his changes very quickly and always keep the peesh pointed down!

From what I remember, it was the same for DS.

Re: Stupid new boy mom question re: changing diapers
DS who is 3.5 months peed on DH & I about 10 times...DH got it right in his face as he was checking on DS's circumcision.
He's also gotten MIL, SIL, my mom and sister...I thought we were over it, but he got me again Sunday night.

Re: Stupid new boy mom question re: changing diapers
I thought I was free and clear after 4 months, at 8m I got sprayed. It was kind of random, but wow I didn't expect it, and I couldn't believe DS looked stunned as I did.

Re: Stupid new boy mom question re: changing diapers
At 16 months, I still always open the diaper with caution! I found you can kind of tell when he is about to pee, but sometimes there is a sneak attack! The first couple months were messy. Now, it is pretty rare.
