stupid question from new mom #597 lol
Is it really a no no to put the bottle in the microwave to warm it?
I know they say not to but I was wondering if this is one of those overy precautious things or something many moms continue to do anyway
TIA

Re: stupid question from new mom #597 lol
I didn't put them in the microwave. From what i understand the microwave can cause hot spots in the formula.

Re: stupid question from new mom #597 lol
I did with DD #1, didn't with #2 and #3.
Basically to get rid of the "hot spots" you have to make sure to shake it afterwards to mix all the warm and cold spot and then check the temp.
I used to do 5-10 seconds at a time.

Re: stupid question from new mom #597 lol
We never did. Once I was in a rush and I threw it in the microwave for a few seconds. I couldn't believe how hot it was when I tested it. Never tried it again. We always warmed up the bottles in hot water.

I would never, just to be safe. Just put the bottle into hot hot water... might take a extra few seconds but its worth it.

I never did, but one of my friends used to do it all the time. She would put it on for a couple of sec, shake it, put it on for a couple more secs.

I do- flame away. 20 second for an 8 oz bottle. Shake it super well - never had any issues.

Re: stupid question from new mom #597 lol
Honestly, I do.
They say it causes hot spots, so when I take it out I swirl the formula around in the bottle to mix it up. I never do it more than a couple seconds at a time. Like 15 seconds, swirl, then 15 more seconds. I don't give DD very warm bottles, I just take the chill out. We use Similac Sensitive that can be very foamy, so I like to make them ahead of time to let the foam go down before giving them to DD.
Maybe I am the worst mom ever, or maybe I am the only one who will admit it.

Re: stupid question from new mom #597 lol
never have. either run it under hot water for 3 mins or in the bottle warmer for 3 mins
i would "think" that if you shake it REALLY well after the micro, it would be ok? i think the issue for me would be heating plastic...

Re: stupid question from new mom #597 lol
I did it with my first DS since he was FF. I would put it in for 10 seconds at a time. Take it out, shake it up then test it the temp.
I don't with DS#2 because he is BF.

Re: stupid question from new mom #597 lol
I've never done it but doesnt mean I never would. We used powdered formula, and once my babies were a month old, I used warm water right out of the tap and shook it, so no warming was necessary.

i didnt. we have a bottle warmer on the counter. you dump a capful of water in it, put the bottle in the holder and within a min the bottle is ready. highly recommend one of these.

This is what we do when we need to.
I would never risk burning my sons throat by having hiy spots caused by nuking

Re: stupid question from new mom #597 lol
With Breast milk, I heard that the micro can deplete nutrients(not sure if it is true) Also hot spots are an issue, but if you shake it up, I would think it would be fine.

Re: stupid question from new mom #597 lol
no I never did.....I read once that it can kill the vitamins/nutrients in the formula. Though to be honest I dont know how true that is. Also from the day he was born my son always got room temp bottles. We used powder and the water was always stored at room temp. Made my life a lot easier.

Re: stupid question from new mom #597 lol
we never warmed the bottle. there is no medical reason to do it. we always served room temp in the beginning and cold from 6 months on.
