stupid sugar question for girls with GD
Today I had 2 egg whites on whole wheat toast for breakfast - like I always do. But I also had one (yes just one) dorrito chip right before I took my sugar. My sugar ended up being 132...when normally it is around 110 two hours after breakfast. Do you think that ONE stupid dorrito chip was responsible for such an increase?

Re: stupid sugar question for girls with GD
i really, really doubt one chip would do it...i have 2 breakfasts that i eat (boring but they work) and my numbers are sometimes different from day to day for no real reason...our bodies are getting different amounts of hormones everyday so that can have an effect on what the number reads. One or 2 high readings isn't the end of the world...the doc told me not to even call unless i was over 150 but not to worry unless it was over 200
ps...are you going to Kathy's shower next week? I don't know anybody there

hmmm I don't think 1 chip would make the number go up 20 points...I had a dark chocolate peanut m&m the other day and was okay lol How was your fasting level? Was it higher than usual? If so, maybe that contributed to the higher number?

Thanks Jenna!! My numbers have just been all over the place lately but never over 135. My Dr even put me on an oral medication b/c my fasting numbers are a bit high (a little over 100) but I've only been on it for few days now.
Unfortunately I cant go to Kathy's shower b/c I have my niece's communion (DH's Goddaughter) that day. Stinks b/c I really wanted to go to her shower. I would try and stop by before the communion but the church/party afterwards is all the way in Holtsville. I'll probably ask Kathy if I can stop by the day before to give her her gift. Sorry I'm gonna miss it!!! I'd love to get together with you guys before the babies come though

My numbers are wacky sometimes too! One day I got a spike for absolutely no reason! I had to go on medication at night for my fasting numbers too...although I was so upset about it, the medication really seemed to help stabalize the numbers. I hope your numbers for the rest of the day go back to normal!

Re: stupid sugar question for girls with GD
Honestly, I don't think it was the doritio chip.
As you get further along in your pregnancy, your sugar levels change as well. It could very well have been the whole wheat toast.
With DD, I couldn't have any type of carbs, no matter how I worked proteins into my meals. Carbs just didn't agree with my sugar levels at all. Even a 1/2 slice of whole wheat would send my sugar levels soaring.

I was on glyubride with my DD because my fasting numbers were always too high. 1/2 pill at night with my evening snack.
The beauty of it was that I had GD during the holiday's and was allowed to "cheat" from time to time by taking 1/2 pill a few hours before a party.
DH and I went out to a really nice dinner for NYE, and my GD nurse told me "enjoy yourself" told me I could take 1/2 a pill about 4 hours before hand. I was able to eat the hot rolls on the table as well as a delicious dessert and keep my numbers within range.
I didn't do it often, maybe 2 or 3 times. But it felt good to eat "normal" then!

Re: stupid sugar question for girls with GD
Hey Li!! I was on insulin (which I know you're not) but I know when my numbers started getting wacky it meant the insulin dose I was taking wasn't sufficient enough anymore. If you find over the next few days that your numbers are starting to be higher or all over place consistently you may want to talk to your doctor. They may need to adjust your diet, change your pills, or even maybe start you on a little insulin.
The GD was such a pain because every time I got it all figured out with my diet and my insulin my sugars would start to go wacky again and then I would have to try something else. Even meals I use to eat with no problem and which kept my sugars low would all of a sudden spike my sugars and give me a problem. Hope you figure it out but I wouldn't sweat one Dorito.......that really shouldn't have jumped your sugars over 20 pts. in one shot. Good luck!!
Edit - I couldn't have ANY bread at all in the morning at one point because it would spike my sugars like crazy. The only thing that worked for me in the morning was oatmeal with a little Splenda, protein shake made with water (NO milk) and a string cheese. If I deviated from that meal even with the insulin my sugars were a mess in the morning. Although you have been eating bread all along you may now all of a sudden be too sensitive to it in the morning. Try cutting out the bread and see what happens.
