I don't put much stock into this as "false advertising." Like other posters have said, there are many variables that could account for the shortage, but people don't want to hear it. I personally don't think it's a big deal. Some people just always need to make mountains out of molehills because because they need to make their principles known.
I don't think it's about 'principle' for one hot minute. It's about greed. It's about our society being really good at finding creative ways to cash in with lawsuits just because they can. I honestly hope all that comes of this is that the participants get the total number of lost sandwich inches back. "What? You had 1 footlong every day for the last year? That's 182 inches that you were shorted.. let's make it 400 inches for your pain and suffering. You are awarded a coupon for 33.33 sandwiches at Subway. Enjoy!"

Exactly. I used "principle" as my nice way of saying precisely what you said - GREED.
I really hope it looks like this in court.

Here is why I am ok with them being sued. They promote A $5 FOOTLONG and if it isn't 12", that is false advertising. Listen, I think subway sucks, but it doesn't mean other people feel the same way and I am sure many people go because they are getting a deal for a footlong. If it happened once, then yes, the lawsuit is a joke. If it happened all the time, I think he has a case.
I agree. I don't think it's right if they advertise a twelve inch sandwich and consistently serve eleven.
I don't think it would be right to pay for eleven twelfths of ANYTHING. It's just easy to make this sounds ridiculous since it's a gross sandwich- though I admit my dh likes the chicken teriyaki one and when he goes I order their veggie patty (and I'm not a vegetarian, lol).

I know it seems petty, but I agree. Don't call it a "footlong" if it's not a foot long. Call it a "large" or something.
They're pretty clear that their two sizes are "footlong" and "6 inch." They're selling them by that measurement. If I bought a one-pound bag of Dunkin Donuts coffee but there were only 15 oz. of coffee in there, I'd be angry too, KWIM?
