Sudden drop in supply @ 7 months

So last night and this morning I didn't have enough breast milk to mix DDs cereal. She is nursing just fine and seems satisfied but I don't seem to have any extra.

Also, I just had a really heavy Period (tmi) which is gone now...and DD and I both seem to be coming down with a cold. We went away for New Years and are all super exhausted too.

Is my supply less for good, or when I get more rest and feel better will it bounce back?

Since DD isn't feeling good I plan to let her nurse all day anyway so hopefully this will help it... What else can I do??

HAve you tried supplements in the past?? Like fennel and oatmeal?? Those were HUGE helps for me to get my supply up when DS was hospitalized.

Has she been nursing less when sick? If so, it should come back if enough demand.

Could you be dehydrated from NYe?

AF is supposed to be a supply killer. So are colds and exhaustion. Try to get some rest, drink a lot of fluids, and see what happens. Don't panic yet!

I haven't tried supplements but I do eat oatmeal and had 2 bowls today. I didn't drink on new years bc DD was with us and would not sleep...which is why I'm exhausted...since we are both not feeling well I've spent today curled up with her just nursing & napping... She seems like she is taking her usual amount...but she wasn't interested in her cereal this morning.

Than you for the replies...I've been drinking lots of water so hopefully my milk bounces back soon otherwise I will try a supplement.

Is the fennel a pill form?? How is the mothers milk tea??

The tea didn't do much for me (and I drank a LOT). I swore by Fenugreek, and took 3 3x a day. But I do think this might be a fluke thing for you.

The Mother's Milk Tea is "OK"... but I used liquid fenugreek which I got from a health food store... one dropper three times a day. It tastes horrendous, but you chase it with water. It's the most concentrated form that is quickly absorbed as it is liquid and doesn't need to be broken down. If that makes sense.

Thanks! I will have DH find me Fenugreek tomorrow bc I really want to make it to a year! I've never had supply issues. Im hoping I'm just run down and it will get better when I do, but I'm afraid my body is stopping bc AF came back last month and was really heavy this month.

AF killed my supply. I did some research and started taking calcium/magnesium/zinc supplements (all-in-one 1500mg/750mg/45mg) and it came right back! You are dairy free I believe, so you need the extra calcium and magnesium. Good luck! Chat Icon
