Sudden stuttering
I was just wondering if anyone else's child has gone through this phase. Tyler is 18.5 mths old. His speech and vocabulary have developed at a pretty rapid rate over the past few months, but he was speaking perfectly clear. Yesterday he started stuttering words. He says "Mom-mom-mom-Mommy hide" or "Play-play-play guitar". I looked online and every site says that this is normal speech development and happens in 90% of children. Now, I know I shouldn't worry, but I am because I haven't met anyone else whose child has gone through this phase. I was just wondering if anyone on here has or had a child go through this phase and how long it lasted.TIA

Re: Sudden stuttering
I don't know what is normal and what is not when it comes to speech development, but my DD did the exact same thing. I worried too, but it didn't last long enough for me to pursue it further...I really believe that her mind was working faster than her vocabulary would allow, so she was trying to get the words out too fast.
She's fine now (she's 4)

Re: Sudden stuttering
I know many beginner talkers that stuttered. I was told it was because their minds were working faster than their mouths. Both of my children stuttered for a short period of time.

Thank you both for your responses. I guess I am just being paranoid.

Re: Sudden stuttering
I remember my younger brother used to do that when he was about 18 months. Now he is 26 years old and a perfect speaker. It was just a phase.
