Re: Sugar Cookies and Royal Icing
I use Wilton's recipe for shortbread cookies when I need to do cookie cut outs. They're delicious and they retain their shape really well during baking so they're easy to decorate.

And their royal icing recipe is great as well.

Royal Icing
I use a different sugar cookie recipe, but the same icing recipe.

Seriously, she has such GREAT cookie tips. I use Wilton's royal icing recipe, but I doctor it by adding more water or more sugar to thin and thicken it as needed.

Re: Sugar Cookies and Royal Icing
I buy my merengue powder at Williams Sonoma. I also use a cream cheese recipe for my sugar cookies. YUM. They're not easy though, so if you're not experienced with ooey gooey dough I don't reco it
