Summer '09 Moms - Thinking about 1st Bday?

I just saw someone posted about 1st bday party in Aug!!!
so I was wondering what everyone else is planning.

Here is my dilemna.....
DD will be 1 on 8/17.
This year and last year has been crazy with Family parties, bridal showers, baby showers, weddings, etc etc.....
so this is why im thinking of not to do a big 1st bday party - bc i dont want people to & say oh man here's another invite, and bc will DD remember this party ??NO
but even if I want to do something small.... its not small anyway.... my closest family is 25 people. this doesnt include any friends or anything. My house is tiny, so during the summer it would be crazy to have 40 people over. and i really dont want to do 2 seperate parties (one for family and one for friends)
any suggestions????
my moms bday is 8/24, so she suggested to have a family party for her and DD one weekend at her house, and then the next weekend do something for friends at my house

just screw it all and go to Turks & Caicos with DH & DD????????

I wont lie I love these park/beach ideas. But Im here in Queens and I feel like travelling to LI is a PIA for everyone..

Any advice/tips/opinions welcomed ;)

that was me! We're having the party @ a town park pavilion bc we live in a complex and don't have a yard and didn't want to use my parents house. Just too many people (prob 50-75). And it's covered in case of rain.

I called the town in March and was told that my 1st and 2nd choices (both beach pavilions) were available for booking as of 2/1/10 and totally booked up by 2/2/10!!! I got nervous and took the 1 remaining time slot for Aug.

I would do some research and try to find an outdoor space in queens and have 1 big party

We're just doing close family I think. Once we extend to friends/neighbors, it becomes too many people for our house! We'll start that when he is old enough to appreciate having friends around.
