Summer Pay & Maternity
How does summer pay work when you take maternity leave? I'm due in December and plan on working as close to my due date as possible. I plan to take 12 weeks and return in March. Do we accrue one week of summer pay for each month we work? Or is that false info?
Edited for spelling

Re: Summer Pay & Maternity
It depends on your district. We have two options.
1. Get paid September-June/no summer check 2 . Get paid September -June plus one check equivalent to the amount we would be paid if we worked the summer.
Option two just means they deduct and hold your money all school year and give it to you at the end.
If you worked in my district and took a maternity leave with option 2 your summer check would be less the amount that is taken it each pay period for the duration of your leave.
Funny- everyone thinks we are paid for the summer but it really is just the district budgeting our salary for us.

Re: Summer Pay & Maternity
are you taking a paid leave (using sick days?) if so then you'd get a full summer check b/c it's as if you worked whole year.
the nuances vary by district and if you're DOE like other poster asked

Re: Summer Pay & Maternity
I went out in May and took 7.5 weeks. I went off payroll the very last week of school and because of that I was not entitled to my second August check. Believe me when I tell you I called everyone under the sun and they all said the same thing. I was told if I didn't go off payroll I would have been fine but I ran out of days.
So based on my experience you will lose part of your August pay too because you will have to come off payroll once your grace period runs out.

make sure after your car runs out, your borrow the 20 days and then go on grace to stay on payroll as long as possible
nicrae, that doesn't seem right you lost your whole 2nd August check because you went off payroll for a week. I could see a very small deduction to summer pay but not a whole check? i know you said you made calls, but I would double check with UFT.
