Re: Sure to stir something... Air Marshal shooting.

maybe blame and fault are strong words...

BUT IMO:
1. that is your DH
2. you know what he is like off the meds, which is psychotic and delusional
3. you know he didn't take his meds and must have been acting funky pre-flight which is why you had to cajole him into getting on the plane.

IMO she made extremely bad decisions....

thats true blame and fault are strong words, but I dont know what else to call it when a tradegy happened and then you have 200 other people to think about too. Def def serioulsy bad decision thinking on wifes behalf. I dont think she is to blame for her husbands death but blame that she should have known better and made sure he took his meds.

Unfortunately in the time we live in shouting BOMB on a full airplane will get you killed, whether your sick or not. There is no time for doubt anymore. The lives of the 200+ passengers could have been in danger and the air marshals did what they were trained to do.

Re: Sure to stir something... Air Marshal shooting.

According to the Newsday story, he was seated and started talking about a bomb and then reached into his back pack. Some of the passangers heard him and so did 2 undercover air marshalls...the 2 air marshalls then identified themselves to the man...who promptly freaked out and ran off the plane (plane was still in boarding mode).

Yep wife said man was sick and off his meds....

I think she could have made a better judgement call and NOT let him get on the plane being that he is a bit nutty.

I think the air marshalls acted appropriately. I would want it that way if that was my plane.

Oh, and after the incident - after the guy was shot, the police boarded the plane and made everyone sit with their hands on their head and not move or make a sound. Nice.

Re: Sure to stir something... Air Marshal shooting.

I think the air marshals were right to shoot if someone claimed they had a bomb and acted in a threatening manner. I don't place blame on the wife b/c we do not know the whole medical situation. Just b/c someone is bipolar doesn't mean that they act in a violent manner without their meds. Unless he has had similar episodes before, it's hard to predict that he would claim there was a bomb on the plane.

Re: Sure to stir something... Air Marshal shooting.

you don't say the word bomb on or around an airplane/airport.

its a sad situation, but i don't think the air marshalls made the wrong decision

Can someone explain what Bi-polar is? I thought it was a condition where you are either extremely happy or extremely depressed without medication?

The accounts are accurate. I spoke to my cousin today who is a secret service agent, and protects the Bush twins. They are trained to shoot to kill.

I have to say that I am relieved to know that there are actually air marshals on the plane. You always hear about them, and it is comforting to know that they are indeed on flights.

It is very sad that a sick man was killed but given the state of the world, I think, unfortunately, tensions are high, risks are high, and the air marshalls did what they had to do to protect the innocent people on the plane.

BUT she shouldn't have let him go on the plane!!!!

THAT she had or could have had control of

OK, that's what I meant ... she was the only one (besides him and he wasn't in the right frame of mind) who had any control of making sure him and the rest of the plane was safe.

She must feel terrible, it's an awful situation and I feel very bad for her.

yea i agree....
aside from how hard it is to live with someone who has the disorder
It is EXTREMELY HARD to deal with when they are not taking medication...

I would have never let him on the plane....even if it meant calling the police

I completely agree

I also agree with Don in that this was a complete catch 22
