Surgery to remove a cyst:

I just had surgery to remove a cyst, the size of a lime, that was on my ovary. They went in through my belly-button and two other small incisions in my lower abdomen... they did it laparoscopically.

The surgery is pretty common so, has anyone else had this done? If so, I have some questions: was your belly-button KILLING you? Did you take the Rx pain meds they recommended? (I didn't want to take Percocet or anything like it because it makes me sick. So, I just asked for Motrin. So far, I'm good with the Motrin. I mean, I'm in pain but I'm just taking it easy.) Was anyone else able to avoid taking the Rx meds? Am I crazy? I just don't like the way that stuff makes me feel. For me, taking Motrin is a lot so I feel like I should be fine.

Also, how long did it take for you to feel better? Go back to work? Go back to normal life? I'm just wondering how long it'll be for me. Also, were you EXHAUSTED? Because I feel like I've been hit by a truck!

Thanks, I would love to hear other people's experiences.

I didnt have a cyst removed from that area (I had one removed from my underarm and leg) but I did have laproscopic surgery for gallbladder removal.

Put pillows under your knees. It will stop your stomach area from stretching which can be painful on the incisions. It really helped when I had laproscopic surgery.

As for exhaustion - it takes a day to recover from the anesthesia. Sleep when you need it.

I had the same procedure last year.. my belly button hurt A LOT. I didnt take the perocet either because it made me incredibly nauseous so I stuck with the motrin. I took a week and 1/2 off from work and by then I felt a lot better... Probably not 100% until 3-4 weeks post surgery but there was a definite improvement within a few days. Feel better!

my mom had laporscopic surgery to remove scar tissue from endometriosis. I remember her being a bit out of it for a few days. Give it a few days and im sure you'll feel a whole lot better.

take it easy and get some rest.

I had the exact same procedure done in '07. I was prescribed Vicodin but didn't need it. I took Advil or Tylenol, I can't remember which. I had the aurgery on a Monday, went back to work Thursday. It took about 6 days before I could walk totally normally with no pain at all. Take it easy and feel better!

Re: Surgery to remove a cyst:

I just had similar surgery to remove endo. My belly button wasn't KILLING me, but it did hurt quite a lot. I took tylenol. They gave me some heavy duty pain meds, but I as well don't like the way I feel on them. Don't get me wrong, if I was in complete agony, I would have taken them.

Don't worry. The belly button pain will pass soon. I remember saying to DH. Why the hell does my belly button hurt so much?? I said it constantly LOL

I was exhausted for about 2 weeks. I remember it being 1 week from surgery and I figured I'd run upstairs to grab something without any help - it was a week, I was feeling good, whats the big deal right? WRONG. That trip up the stairs was horrible. I felt like I was 100 years old and tried to run a mile. Surgery takes a lot out of you. Just because your incisions are looking good and all closed up doesn't mean everything inside is done healing.

I went back to work at the 10 day mark. But my job also consists of sitting so it wasn't a big deal physically.

I didn't feel 100% back to my old self until about 3 weeks.

Hope you feel better soon

i had a lapro gallbladder removal. it takes a few days to feel better. i would have been cleared to go back to work in a week or so but i already had a vacation scheduled for i only went back for one day in between. i was told no heavy lifting for 6 weeks.

a couple tips that help: if you feel like you need to couch, sneeze, etc, take a pillow and press it on your stomach to provide reverse pressure. also in the first couple days, when you need to get up, roll onto your side and swing your legs over the bed first.
