Swans are scary.
They look at you with their heads turned to the side - stare for a while, then flap their wings to intimidate. They dive under the water, come up, and make snorting noises like a pig!
Oh, and if you're eating a bagel, they CHASE YOU AND POKE THEIR BEAKS INTO YOUR ANKLES! 
I was down in Northport this morning, on one of those little floatation things with benches on it - I was CHASED by 2 swans, and they were ANGRY!

YES!  Well, I'm not sure if actual spit came out, but it was like a cat spitting--loud scary noises with their tongues sticking out!

I have red marks on the back of my legs where they hit me with their beaks!!!

swans can be pure evil...I don't care how pretty they are...don't be fooled. There is a family of swans near my friends house on Peconic bay & every year thet chase us down the canal & try to bite my friends BIL.....

One chased after Casey (my puppy) a couple of weeks ago, DH had to chase the mother, father and baby down the block with the hose

When I was a kid we were at some garden. My dad (who is not a small man) was walking across this stone path that led across the pond. All of the sudden this swan charged towards him and got him on the ankle and calf. My dad tumbled off the path into the water (it was shallow enogh for him to stand) where the swan continued to chase my dad. He finally made it out onto the shore. The swan contiuned to yell and look at him. We(except my dad) all continued to laugh like crazy!!!! I guess that the swan had a nest on one of the stones further up and was protecting her eggs.

They are nasty! They bite and can do a lot of damage if they hit you with their wings.
One of my owners, was canoeing this summer and one jumped on in his boat and went after him.

There was a pond with a swan at one of the wineries DH and I visited upstate, and there was a sign posted near the pond which said "Warning: Swan is NOT Friendly"
Guess it's the species, or breed, or whatever the hell it's called.

They are NASTY NASTY creatures... A looooooooong time ago my brother and his friend took an inflatable raft and went in the pond and a swarm of swans attacked! They punched the raft until it deflated and they had to swim back to shore... hysterical!
