swine flu concerns....

With all of these swine flu cases in Queens, and DH being a teacher in Queens, I am concerned!!! DD is 6 weeks, hasnt even gotten her shots, and there are kids who are out in every school, especially in DHs district (Same district where the AP passed away yesterday.) I am usually not paranoid, but I can't help but be paranoid about what to do with DD if DH's school closes...

To me.. if his school has confirmed cases, he has ALREADY been exposed... I am just dreading possibility of his school closing... and the fear that he may have brought it home with him..

I know the news hypes up all the stories, and it is a rather mild flu as they keep telling us.. but the fear is still there...

DH works with schools in Brooklyn and Queens. DD is 13 months old and she had the flu in January. The last thing I want is for her to get sick again.

I always ask him when he gets home if he had any meetings at the schools that day-just so I can encourage him to go take a shower Chat Icon

I have same fear just working with sick people all day.. its a valid concern to have with your dh. I would address them to Peds, Im going to tomorrow at her weight check. So far my job hasnt implimented any rules with dealing with patients, but I still jump in shower right away before touching the girls.

Re: swine flu concerns....

My hubby works in the city and it freaks me out ~ I keep sending him emails to make sure he washing his hands frequently while at work & he always washes up when he gets home from work... all the germs from trains and subways. (I did ask dh to walk if the weather was good instead of taking subways...just in case) Our son is 9 months old and I don't want him to get this flu (he has been fighting something this week ~ tired and has been running a fever since sunday)

Re: swine flu concerns....

Before today, I didn't even think twice about it, but my boss just was notified 15 minutes ago that someone that has been in our office for the last week is suspected of having swine flu. My throat started hurting two days ago, but I doubt it is related. NOnetheless, I am starting to get a little nervous b/c my DS is 15 1/2 months old.

I have the same worries as you cuz DH is a high school english teacher.

His school actually may be closing cuz some of the teachers that teach in the annex building are sick, but no confirmed cases yet. DH does not work in the annex buildings but still.

Re: swine flu concerns....

The source of spreading this virus is school so if schools aren't closing (like those on LI with confirmed cases) I hope they are vigilant about not letting sick kids stay in the schools.

It is an inconvenience to close down a school b/c most parents both work today and it is hard to find childcare but at the same token, it's an inconvenience if their child is sick and they risk infecting other children, teachers, etc.

DH is a cop and I tell him not to let anyone cough or sneeze on him and to purell his hands and wash his hands constantly which he has been good about. I told him even though he might not get the swine flu if he is around someone with it, he can pass it on to me (being I'm pregnang I am more at risk) or DS (being he is younger he is at higher risk).

Re: swine flu concerns....

I'm concerned as well. I work for the DOE and am on the QMI express from Fresh Meadows downtown everyday. DH is a bus driver -- his run is from Queens to Midtown. It's scary having so much contact with people in enclosed spaces. I have a 7 month old at home and don't want to bring any germs home Chat Icon
