Switching from powder to RTF - did your DC experience any side effects?

DS is on Similac Alimentum powder. Its super expensive and we go through it like crazy. A friend of mine got Alimentum for free thru her insurance company and had 63 bottles of RTF Alimentum that she didnt need, so she was nice enough to give them to us! Its a huge help to us, but I'm worried about switching DS from the powder to RTF. He spits up so easily. Right now we're adding rice cereal to his formula to help his reflux and to help the spit up. I know RTF is generally thicker, so I'm not sure how that will translate with the rice cereal.

Did anyone else switch from powder to RTF and have any issues?? Or did your DC transition fine?

my dd doesnt have reflux but has many other tummy issues.. and we went from powder to RTF and she did fantastic she does so much better with the RTF. But with us shes on soy so she ended up getting constipated. i dont know if its from the soy or if its from power-> RTF. But when that hapens we just suppliment in one bottle of powder and shes back to norm!

Good luck thats fantastic i know its hard when its so expensive your very lucky that your friend has extra! Chat Icon

it's fantastic that you got all that stuff!!!!!!!!!!

the only thing i worry about is how thick RTF tends to be....

i guess it can't "hurt" to try....but be aware it may be a problem due to the 'thickness'....

this was my fear too. although we use rice cereal to thicken up the powder, its still a different consistency than the RTF. I'll give it a try for a day or two and if he's spitting it all up, then maybe I'll just sell the RTF bottles and stick with powder.

RTF is great for Gianna, and it's the powder that causes problems for her. She flat out refuses to drink the powder, even when I mix it exactly as directed. With the ready to feed, she's great and she has had zero problems with pain from her milk-protein allergy.

Try the RTF - I'm pretty sure they'll be fine. You'll become hooked because they are SO easy. Pop the can open and pour. That's it.

Actually I think you will find your DC will tolerate the Rtf much better. I think it has to do with less air, less powdery texture, etc.

DD had bad reflux when on powder. So we switched to RTF Sim Sensitive and while I thought it was the Sensitive that is helping her, I think it was simply the RTF. Why?

Well over a mth ago I went from the RTF to the powder again and my DD went back to being miserable. Gassy, uncomfortable, waking at night (all of which she did as a newborn on powder).

So I realized i think she cannot tolerate the powder at all. RTF is so much thicker, tastier too. And less air.

I think your DC will do just fine. I truly believe, after my experience, that the RTF is much easier tolerated due to less powdery texture and less air (from mixing, shaking, etc).

HTH

no side affects we changed her at around 4 months and none at all, yes RTF is thicker so they may get "fuller" on it...so I would just lookout for thatChat Icon
