Re: Switching to Stony Brook Midwives - XPOST

I switched from my OB to the Stony Brook Midwives when I was 30 weeks pregnant with my first. I got a copy of my records from my OB and physically brought them to my first appointment with the midwives. Switching was really as easy as they had indicated at the Meet the Midwives night I attended. I had more problems getting the OB to release my records to me than I had getting in to see the Midwives. I had a great experience with them. It was one of the best decisions I have made. I'm sorry to hear that you are having problems getting in to see them. That was not my experience. I would call again on Monday and insist on getting an appointment ASAP. Sometimes front office staff doesn't always reflect the approach and attitude of the medical professionals they are representing. Which office are you working with? I was going to the East Islip office which is smaller than the Stony Brook office. Good Luck with everything - I hope that you are able to get to see them right away and have the wonderful experience that I did. Sorry I can't be of more help!

I had the same experience as caliz. I physically picked up y records from my old ob-gyn and brought them with me to my appointment. I switched around 22 weeks.
You can always make an appointment for a "consultation" so you get in to see someone sooner, and tell them what is going on with the records.

I've worked with them & had good experiences. I'd call one more time & if you are not happy with the appointment, maybe call one of the head midwives & ask for advice?

Maybe you should call and leave a messsage for Chris Kocis- she is the director of the midwifery program. In my experience, the staff at the desk in East Setauket is very busy-they are the same staff for all the OBs there too- so they are not always super helpful.
