Taking Jack out of the bassinet and into the crib

I think we are doing this tonight. We have a fairly large bassinet (it's passed down through the family so it's old school and BIG) - but, my little monster seems to be outgrowing it. I wake up constantly in the middle of the night to find his little face up against the bumpers. I am so nervous that I think it's just time to move him into his own room, and his crib.

Any words of advice for me? This is going to be a tough night.

We already hooked up the Video monitor and will be switching the Angelcare in there before he goes to bed shortly.

Re: Taking Jack out of the bassinet and into the crib

I could have written this myself!!!!! As you know, my DD was born the same day as Jack and we're just experiencing this too. We have the smaller PNP in our room that she's been sleeping in, and she's starting to get too big for it, but really, we need to switch her b/c I'm returning to work Monday Chat Icon and she'll be woken up at 5am if we don't move her to her own room. Thankfully her bedroom is just across the hall from ours, but we're still nervous about it!

We were supposed to do it today, but procrastinated and it's too close to her bedtime to do it now. We have to do the Angelcare move too.

One of my big concerns is the Tiny Love mobile in her crib doesn't make her mellow, it makes her a crazy active girl, kicking her legs and throwing her arms around...she loves it, but it energizes her, it doesn't make her sleepy. I'm hoping I can move it away during the nighttime so she doesn't see it and get active.

I don't have a plan of attack, but I hope it goes well for both of us! Chat Icon Good luck!!!!

You can always sleep on the floor next to him - you know you'll be in there every 5 minutes to check on him anyway. Good luck!!! Chat Icon

First of allChat Icon

But second of all, it wasn't as hard as I thought it was going to be. We put Christopher in at about 3 months (we had an old school bassinett too) and he sleeps better and WE sleep better.

Re: Taking Jack out of the bassinet and into the crib

We just did it on Thursday night. The bassinet was too small. I rearranged the furniture in our bedroom and brought his crib into our room. I was not ready to let him sleep in his room just yet.

He has not slept good in it. It's big. He jerks a lot. But he will get use to it.

Good luck!

Chat Icon it'll be ok!! you will see in little while that everyone sleeps better in the long run! i moved my DD to her crib @ 6 wks on a whim and it was a lot easier than i thought. i actually liked my freedom in my bedroom to talk to DH and move around w/o worrying about waking her up. don't worry! Awww you will be ok.
I felt the same way. The first few nights, I was checking on him pretty much every 30-60 mins.
Then, I decided, I need zzzzzz.
He's 8 months now and has been in the crib since 4 months.
I keep the monitor right on my night table on the highest volume possible and I feel he is right next to me.

You and your DS will sleep much better.Chat Icon

thanks everyone. he has been in the crib since 8:30 and I LOVE the video monitor. It's amazing. I see every little move he makes.

I'm hoping to make it through tonight - then the rest should be easy!

Awwww.... that is a tough night for Mommy- I remember ours like yesterday!

The video monitor is great- you will check it all night long but it gives you such peace. By tomorrow night, once you see he is adjusted fine you will actually be happy to have your bedroom back to you and your DH- trust meChat Icon

I would nap him in his crib today if you can. I've always found it easier to transition during the day versus nighttime when emotions run high & I'm tempting to take them back in my bed.

Good luck! I know my tiny house never seemed so big as when they were moved across the hall.

Re: Taking Jack out of the bassinet and into the crib

It actually went really well last night. THANK GOD for the video monitor. I was glued to it all night long.

He went down at 8pm - woke up at 4am for a bottle then went back down to 7:30am.

He has been napping in his crib so I think he's been getting used to it!
