Taking NB babies out

What is everyone's opinion about this?

His ped says not to take him out until he is like one month to places like the mall or where a lot of people will touch him or be in his face.

I would like to take him to the mall he will be 4 weeks next Tuesday.

I wouldn't but that's JMO. I think a walk outside would be a better choice.

My ped said to wait 8 weeks before going to mall or other similiar places. I waited the 8 weeks. I was too afraid of DS getting sick so young!

Re: Taking NB babies out

I did...right away..ok 2wks old she was.

My ped is adamant about not taking them out esp to malls. (he states they are GERM infested)

I looked at it that as long as she was not being touched or handled by anyone she was fine.
Plus, seeing family is ok but dont they carry germs too Chat Icon

I did. DS was 6 days old and we took him to the mall. We had company over and DS was a week old.

I waited until 6 weeks for public places. I took him out the fist or second week for walks in his stroller. I had company over and went to peoples houses from the beginning though.

Re: Taking NB babies out

I waited till Julia was 2 months before we went to stores or the mall (just so many people and germs there, so stuffy too!)

I would take him for lots of car rides and walks.

Re: Taking NB babies out

We didnt got to public places until after 6 weeks. However, we went for strolls and visited family homes and had company to our home in the beginning.

ETA: When we did go out and we still do it now and DD is 10weeks, 11weeks tomm. I placed the net over her so even those who wanted to get close or touch cant because she is protected. The net works for bugs and humansChat Icon

Our doctor (actually like 3 doctors in the practice) have all said to wait 8 weeks. We've held out so far, we'll see how it goes.

Re: Taking NB babies out

DD has been out and about in public places since she was a couple of weeks old. Obviously I wouldn't let people handle her in the mall, Target, etc. and she has never been sick Chat Icon She even went on an airplane and didn't get sick, which surprised me with all those germs.

Re: Taking NB babies out

I took my boys out pretty early. Whenever we went out, the stroller or carseat was always covered and I didn't let people get too close.

I have been taking DD out for lunch since one week old. I haven't taken her to the mall yet but that's just b/c I'm a fat *** and have no need to shop yet...otherwise I would have taken her already! I think department stores are fine especially during the weekdays..nobody is there...at least at the mall near me.

Re: Taking NB babies out

All the peds I talked to said 8 weeks before going to malls, stores, etc... So, I will wait for the 8 week mark. I have been going for a walk everyday now since he is 3 week old.

I am going to my company picnic tomorrow. It's in open space so that should be OK.

I would go ahead and take the baby out, in the UK we haven't got any guidance about taking Newborns out and we have healthy children. Its your judgement, I was out with my son at 2 weeks...so personally, I would go out. Just don't let people touch the baby if you aren't happy with that.

Re: Taking NB babies out

I took Steven out right away (like the day after he came home) to the supermarket and BRU. We went for walks almost every day. He was born in November.

People shouldn't be in your face anyway, but you can keep him in the seat with the visor up so people won't be so inclined to lean over so close to look at him.

Me too. They pretty much told us that if he had a fever above 100.4 F before he is 8 weeks old, he would go to the hospital. I don't HAVE TO go out so it's just inconvenience to me and boredom.

Re: Taking NB babies out

I waited until about 6 weeks to take her into public places like stores. And even then it's not very often. But we've had people over to see her sicne her first day home and she's fine.

You do have to be careful though because if they get sick and have a fever too young, they might have to do a spinal tap and that's no fun for anyone! (At least, that's what my mother, the nurse, scared me with!)

Re: Taking NB babies out

Walks outside at less than a week old.

But we are waiting til she has her shots to take her to any enclosed places. I figure an ouce of prevention....

If we go shopping on the weekend, one of us runs in while the other sits in the car with DD, and the a/c running. But those a quick errands basically.
