But we aren't having one, and I don't really understand why people do. I mean, we are having a fair amount of people, and we are going to hook up our Sirius in the house (it is usually in DH's garage)

We had one at DS's party yesterday and I have to say...it was worth the money (and he was the cheapest I could find). I couldnt see spending big bucks on a DH for a 1st b-day...I just wanted someone to keep 15 kids entertained for a few hours so the parents could enjoy themsevles. They had give-aways, played games with the kids (parachute, limbo, freeze dance, etc.) and everyone said it was great.

Not a flame here either, but why do you need a DJ for a 1st birthday party? How about an ipod with a cool playlist? Seems alittle unecessary to me Wait until your child get solder and can personally enjoy the music, we are having a communion party in a few weeks and even then I am not havng a DJ, we are havin the ipod set up with differet playlists, save your $

I didn't go the DJ route, I didn't even have background music. Her party was at home though. We did have a musical puppet show with balloon animals and temp. tattoos after from Small World Entertainment. They have quite a few different entertainment options that might be more fun than a DJ. www.smallworldentertainment.com is the site if you want to check it out.

Some of the places we talked to will not allow us to bring in an iPod to plug in, so depending on which place we have it will determine if we need a DJ or not. I need background music & I'd like someone to announce when the cake cutting is & stuff.

I totaly understand & respect that many people do not have a DJ, and I am sure a whole bunch of people read this & , but we had a very very small private baptismal and DHs family in particular was upset that so many people were not invited, so we are having a much bigger 1st B-day.
