Tdap
Did you get yours before your delivered or after?
I work with children so I think my last one was like 2011 or 2012... Would I have to get it again?
Im going to ask my Dr. On Thursday but figured I'd see why you ladies had to say first...

Tdap
I got mine a few minutes before we left to go home from the hospital after I had DS.
ETA: The last one I had gotten was probably in my teens so that's why I got one.

I had a tetanus shot at my physical back in May before I got pregnant. Is there a separate tetanus shot or could it have been a Tdap. I guess I could call my PCP but I figured I'd ask here first! lol

More than likely it was the combination TDAP shot. Dr's offices can charge insurance companies a bit more for it than just plain old tetanus.

Yes there is a separate tetanus shot. Usually tetanus is good for 10 years, the td part ( tetanus and diphtheria) of the tdap is good for 10 years, but the pertussis part loses efficacy after about 3 years, so tdap itself could be given every 5 years if it needed to be.

They want close contacts of newborns to get the Tdap for the "P" part of it, to protect the babies from Pertussis. It has nothing to do with what they charge the insurance for. Pertussis has been on the rise lately, so they're trying to protect the babies.
ETA: I'm getting mine before. The tetanus component can make your arm sore for up to a week. I don't want that in addition to a c-section and sore nipples!

i got mine after delivery - the hospital asked if i had it and i didnt recall so instead of getting it while i was there i called the doctor to get my records - they told me i needed one so i went in a week later and got it

I believe what she meant was that in an instance where you're not getting a tetanus shot b/c you're going to be near babies but b/c you're due for one, they might just give the Tdap instead of just tetanus.
When I got it, she just told me it was tetanus and nothing else but it turns out that it was the Tdap. I got it before I was pregnant and only b/c I was due for one, not b/c I would be in close contact with newborns.

That's exactly what I meant. 
I work in the field. Most PCP don't carry the pertussis or tetanus shot by themselves anymore because it's more profitable to have "grouped" injections.

The CDC recommends that you get the vaccine after 20 weeks of gestation because it optimizes antibody transfer to the baby and protection at birth. It takes two weeks from the time the vaccine is administered for the immune response to peak. There is evidence that the maternal antibodies cross the placenta but it is still unknown if these antibodies are effective in preventing infant pertussis. It seems it cannot hurt to get vaccinated after 20 weeks.
