Is anyone getting the adult Tdap vaccine?
When I was in the hospital this past week, the nurse told me that they've been offering the adult Pertussis vaccine to all the new moms because they're starting to see a comeback of whooping cough. I was originally going to decline, until she told me that they are finding new strains that are immune to the vaccines that most of us got as children.
Well, as scared as I am of needles (yes, even after having a c-section, a spinal and an IV ), I decided to get it.
The thought that I can still get it, even though I'm supposedly "immune" is very scary to me.

I was wondering how long your old vaccine lasted for, cause if I need one I am for getting it, since there is a rise on the comeback of it.

Re: Is anyone getting the adult Tdap vaccine?
I got one last year at dd's 2 week checkup. The ped was offering it since it has been making a comeback. I jumped on the chance to get it there since it meant I wouldn't have to go to my pcp to get it.

Re: Is anyone getting the adult Tdap vaccine?
I want to get it but my GP does not carry it. I called the dept of health this week and they gave me a lsit of places to contact to possibly get it in Suffolk. I'm kicking myself for declining it at the hospital but nobody really explained it to me so I didn't realize that i needed it. I also work in an elementary school and am concerned with contracting it there and bringing it home to DS.

I had gotten mine in 2007 because I was doing my hospital externship. It's recommended for anyone who will be around babies, so I would.

Re: Is anyone getting the adult Tdap vaccine?
I truly do not remember if I got it with Abby. I suppose when i do my pre-op testing for Zippy, they can access that info or maybe my OB can. If not, I'll get it. Im not afraid of needles or vaccines.

Re: Is anyone getting the adult Tdap vaccine?
I declined it when DD was born. I'll likely decline it this time around as well.
The reason I declined it was that I didn't know what kind of reaction if any I would get from it, and I was concerned about how I would feel and having to take care of DD, recovering from the delivery as well as possibly feeling like crap from the vaccine.

I got it last year and had such a bad reaction! Fever, dizziness, nausea. Lasted less than a day.

Ditto.- declined in hospital. May reconsider at my next physical.

Re: Is anyone getting the adult Tdap vaccine?
I read about this and wanted to get it but it turns out, I probably already got it when I burned my hand and went to the ER. They gave me a tetanus shot but my PCP said it was likely DTAP. I have to call and check to make sure, but I think it's a good idea. One of my college roommates got whooping cough and it was not pretty. My hospital did not offer it to me though after I had DD - I just read it somewhere and thought it was a good idea.

Re: Is anyone getting the adult Tdap vaccine?
Brian, myself, my mom, dad and sister all got it after Frankie was born! We didn't want to take any chances! We won't need it again for 10 years!
