tdap shot for parents?
With the hospital paperwork, I got a list of vaccinations that DH and I should have had. We had everything necessary except it says we need a td booster or a tdap shot. Does anyone know if this is actually necessary and am I supposed to get it while pregnant or after I give birth? I am not sure what is best? I forgot to ask the pediatrician today when we went to interview him and now I don't know who to ask. Would my ob/gyn be able to answer this? If anyone knows or has info on this, please let me know.

You dont HAVE to get it but I got it after I gave birth to protect my first DC from pertussis, I made everyone get one lol that commercial makes me sad!

I got it before I got pregnant and DH got it right after I had the baby. I feel it is very necessary as its on a rise and can be fatal to your baby. Since they are to young to get it.

I am going to get this shot after I give birth and have hubby get the shot before the baby is born. (I am going to discuss with my ob tomorrow)
I am debating on how I can ask our parents but I read this article and it broke my heart and scared me crazzzzy.

I'm getting the tdap in the hospital after baby is born. DH just got his today. My parents are getting one also.

DH recently stepped on a rusty nail and needed a tetanus shot - apparently that is part of the tdap, so he got the tdap instead of just tetanus....so he's set.
I am going to talk to my OB at my next appt about me getting it. I will get it.

I got it after giving birth, before leaving the hospital. DH got it at the ped's office a few days after we brought DD home.

crashing but i just read an article talking about the new way to recommend vaccines and that one of their newest recommendations was to give the tdap DURING pregnancy. The reasoning was that they were still seeing cases of infants with pertussis even after giving it to mom and dad (after birth) because they were unable to vaccinate everyone who came in contact with that child during that first period of life when they are most vulnerable/can't be vaccinated themselves. by vaccinating the mother during pregnancy, she passes antibodies onto the baby providing protection until they can get vaccinated themselves.
it was in a march issue of the Journal of the American Medical Association. might be something to talk to your ob/midwife about.

I just heard about this for the first time yesterday, so I'll be getting it tomorrow (in the hospital) & my dh will be going to his doc for it sometime this week.

DH and I both got it right before I left the hospital. My twins were born at 30 weeks and I wanted to do anything and everything to prevent them from getting exposed to something as serious as that. My parents also got it also soon after they came home from the NICU.
