Teacher Mommies (Daycare related)

Do you pull your DC out of daycare for the summer?

We are pulling Chelsea out and I am just wondering how hard it will be for her to go back in September?

Did you bring your DC to visit during the summer?

Re: Teacher Mommies (Daycare related)

DH is a teacher so I kind of had a similar situation.

I made the decision for him to go two half days last summer and between DH and my MIL they had my son for the rest of the time.

The reason was two-fold. First because I wanted to keep him familiar. And second because i knew my DH would not be able to handle it full-time.

This summer he'll probably stay in f/t because DH is getting ankle surgery and won't be able to care for him for at least 5 weeks or the 8 weeks he'll be off. But if that wasn't the case we would have done 3 or 4 half days (mornings).

Last summer, I pulled her out. But, half way through I had to do curriculum work so I had her go for 2 days. But that was it. Come September she was fine and transitioned back smoothly.

Unfortunately, we still have to pay for two spots, FT.

Their old and new daycare center both have wait-lists. If I pulled them out there is no way, I'd ever be able to get two spots in the same room at the same time again. I had to book 10 months in advance just to switch centers.

I'll probably be sending them T-Th. Give me a chance to get in all of the doctor's appts. I haven't had a chance to keep since they were bornChat Icon

DS goes to a babysitter, and I will not send him over the summer. I will start bringing him there for a few hours here and there before school starts to get him back into the routine and so I can set up my classroom.

DS will not go to daycare over the summer. It's $$$ and there are so many other activities for us to do those months. We get together with our SAHM and teacher mom friends a lot, too Chat Icon

Re: Teacher Mommies (Daycare related)

for two years DD stayed home with me over the summer. it was never an issue. they just made me pay the annual deposit (same as everyone else) to hold her spot for September. This summer she will be there 2 days a week so I can have some time alone with the baby. every daycare I looked at was fine with pulling her out over the summer.

DD' s daycare is run by a woman who takes teacher's children only-so that she can have the same schedule and summers off too to spend with her own kids. so yes, DD will be out of daycare in the summer- i am hoping that the return in september will be smooth but she'll just be going p/t then.

I teach summer school, and my father watches Lily, so during the summer, he only watches her for half a day, and not at all on Fridays (no school).

Re: Teacher Mommies (Daycare related)

DD hasn't started daycare yet, but she will in August. I know that we are expected to pay through next summer.

I have no qualms about sending her maybe 2-3 days a week for a couple of hours. I think it'll be good to get her out and interacting with the other kids. Plus, that'll give me some time to get some stuff done around the house, and to run errands and such.
