Team green slip up?
So here I am at my 39 week appt and the nurse listening to the heartbeat keeps saying he sounds great. He seems healthy using nothing but he. I say quietly oh we don't know if it's a boy or girl and she doesn't repond( not sure if she even heard me. The dr came in and I asked her if the nurse would even know the sex of the baby and she says probably not she would have to really dig around to know it and was prob using a generic "he" but now I can't shake the disappointment feeling that I might know now?? every other nurse has always said "the baby" no sex pronouns. After waiting for over an hour for a 2 minute(basically useless) appt I'm just feeling totally unhappy at this point

Team green slip up?
I've had them use he/she at an appointment without really knowing the sex of my baby. She was probably just using it generically.

Team green slip up?
I had something similar happen. The np I saw for some appointments including a sono around 28 weeks would say he sometimes. Once she saw I was nervous she had slipped up and said don't worry I don't even know what it is but I didn't know if she was just covering her tracks. I ended up having a girl so it was definitely just a generic he.
At 35 weeks at the hospital I had a sono and I told the resident right away we didn't know and she assured me she would have to really go looking to know which she wasn't going to do.

Yes I agree with this. She probably just said "he" generically. Don't worry

Re: Team green slip up?
Thanks guys, it makes me feel better. Maybe it was also because I had my 3 yo DS with me too who knows. I just should have spoken more loudly or asked her directly if she knew or was just using the generic term. I'm hormonal at this point and so it just got me disappointed to think I came all this time and now it got slipped up like that. It would have been nice if the Dr also just said no way she would know (even if she was lying hehe), to ease my mind. I guess I will find out soon enough!

Re: Team green slip up?
If she was just using the doppler, I'm sure she didn't know the baby's gender. I know what I'm having and they still don't have it easily accessible in my chart!

Team green slip up?
i went through something very similar!!! we were team green for a while. this is our 3rd child and just like our prior children, we did not want to know the sex.
every time I would go to an appointment, I would tell whoever that we were team green. well, we took the materniti21 test at one practice and everyone knew I was team green but I ended up having to switch practices mid course I had all my paper work faxed over to the new practice. the nurse or whoever was taking down information and I had my daughter with me who happened to ask a question and the person said " he is blah blah blah" I freaked out silently b.c I wasn't sure if she looked at my blood work ahead of my appointment and knew the gender or if she was just throwing out a pronoun.
at my 20 week sono, I told everyone, I don't want to know the sex. the tech even made me turn my head when she had to look down by the baby's genital area. and she something once like " ok now look away b.c the baby's legs are wide open and you will see EVERYTHING" and of course that got me wondering " everything!?!? is there an obvious penis hanging out in plain sight?!?!"
anyhow, fast forward a few weeks later, we decided to find out the sex b.c I was stressing about all sorts of things like names.. clothes... ( as this child will get hand me downs).. the room.
we did a gender reveal cake and I was SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO sure I was going to see blue when I cut into the cake- sure enough, it was PINK!!! I was sooooooooo surprised and shocked. it was the best thing ever! I loved it. and I am so glad I found out b.c I totally would have concentrated on boy names and boy clothes etc.
don't stress it. just keep in your mind that sometimes they apply a pronoun and it means nothing. and if it turns out you have a boy, it really could have been a coincidence as well!

Re: Team green slip up?
With scans of my girl... The tech kept saying "his heart, his hand". I'm not team green & the tech reviewed my chart.
You won't know til you know (or find out).

Re: Team green slip up?
When I was team green they told me they do not write it in my file at all so if anyone looked in there they wouldn't know. But toward the end I had a dr. call it he and also a nurse call it a he. The nurse corrected herself oh I don't know why I am calling it a he, there are just several old wives tales pointing that it would be a he. I started to really think it was a boy.
Then right before my induction I had another sonogram. It was hard to see anything at all, the baby was so squished. We met with the dr to go over things and she kept saying "she." She kept saying we don't know how she will handle the pitocin and how she will handle the delivery. Did she mean me she or the baby she. I didn't ask.
It turned out to be a girl and was still the best surprise in the whole world!

I agree, my dr said they dont keep the sex written in the chart, especially if you don't want to know the sex. With my DS the ultrasound tech told me up front she would use the generic "he" just to make it easier so I was just as surprised and happy when my team green baby came out as

We found out gender and the nurse always asked if we were having a boy or girl, they never knew. I wouldn't read into it, I'm sure they just don't want to call your baby "it"

Team green slip up?
This thread is making me feel a lot better! We are team green as well and at our 20 week sono I made a point to tell the tech right away that we weren't finding out. He spent the entire sonogram saying "the baby" and was very careful not to use any pronouns. At one point we could not get a good image of the heart and after like 20 minutes of looking the tech mumbled something under his breath that sounded a lot like "he isn't in the right position". I was convinced its a boy because the tech was so good about not using pronouns up until that point. My dr told me that most people defer to using "he" and I am glad to see though that it seems to be the case here. Honestly boy or girl I will be ecstatic either way but I was feeling really cheated out of the 'not knowing' experience for a while there.

Re: Team green slip up?
We were team green and the dr told me that they don't even note the sex in the file, so most likely your nurse would have had to study the sonogram pics to find out the sex and she would have had no reason to do that. Don't worry she didn't ruin any surprise!!

crashing- we went through the same thing. The nurse kept saying he. I know for a fact that, that particular dr likes to know the gender so we were surprised. But we were tema green. Well we had a girl so it was just a generic he

Re: Team green slip up?
She could have just said "he" generically or maybe she was stupid and gave it away...but...the best part is you still don't know which of those is right so still Team Green! :)

Re: Team green slip up?
I go to two OB's, regular and high risk. Both offices told me that they do not document the sex of the baby in the chart. They both told me that the only time its in the chart is if Maternity 21 test results are in there. If she was doing a Doppler, she was probably just using the generic "he". I call this Team Green baby "she" so they have all adopted that at my appointments but they all used to call it "he".

I use "he" all the time with patients and I don't know the sex unless I'm specifically looking at materni21 paper but that does not get written in the chart.

Re: Team green slip up?
Thanks guys, I did't have any sort of testing done other then U/S that would predict the sex so I'm sure you all are right. Either way we will be excited and happy (and she has a 50% chance of being right hehe) I just had this sudden feeling like OMG this is not how I wanted to find out (though almost everyone i know, and even strangers feel its going to be a boy..including me hehe). I appreciate all your responses and get to find out in the next week or two!

Re: Team green slip up?
With my OB practice the nurses always said that they never knew the sex (my 20 week soon is at the hospital not the office). I got the impression that it wasn't even in the file. I wouldn't worry...but I can understand why you are so upset. Hang in!!

Team green slip up?
Last year i was 40 weeks and 1 day along...team green the entire pregnancy. I went for a non stress test to check on the baby and the nurse comes in and says "let's see how shes doing in there." I was crushed! When the doctor came in I asked if it was in the chart and he said yes it is but you waited this long I am not telling you now! I told him I thought the nurse slipped. The nurse came back in at the end of the appt and said oh sorry about earlier, i just refer to all babies as BOYS because I have 2 boys myself. I didnt tell her she called my baby a girl and just figured after 40+ weeks the secret was blown. I went home and told DH what happened and we both were convinced we were having another girl. Well the next morning I was in labor and DH and i were shocked when they said "its a boy!"
