I read in the paper last year that they do this illegally, and they are trying to see who is home, what the house layout is - so they can come back and rob you!

I'm going to try to find the article now.

Yup two days after these kids were selling stuff door to door in my neighborhood three kids attempted to break into my house. When the cops came they confirmed that it's all a scam.

They were walking past my house on Friday as I was getting home. One boy saw me pull my car in the driveway and starting walking all the way up my driveway. He practically met me at my car door Chat Icon

They said it's for a non-profit that helps kids stay off the streets and out of drugs. Showed me a flyer and all Chat Icon I pulled out my wallet and showed them that there was literally NO money in it....and they still wouldn't stop badgering. I even explained that I understand and work for a non-profit as a substance abuse counselor, lol. Eventually I just had to say NO and that was it.

I did the SAME thing when I had no cash on me and he said "Ma'am we will take a check!!" Ummmm riiiiigghhhht.....I will get right on that!!!

OMG, I just yelled at DH 2 weeks ago because he bought something from one of these kids. He paid $10 for a container of tootsie rolls that normally costs $2-3!! I was LIVID. I've told him so many times before not to buy from these people. I don't trust them and I felt as if they were not a legit organization. I just shared this thread with him and I'm hoping that now he will listen to me.

Usually my dog scares away everyone, too, but not this time. Chat Icon
I also thought it was strange that kids would be out on a Sun evening....

Now I know --- and I will tell Dh to not buy anything from them!

Thanks for all the replies!

Re: Teenage boys selling stuff from bins, door to door?

My husband has seen some of his students around the surrounding areas and we live an hour from where my husband teaches. They just drop them off and tell them a time they will pick them up. They do it in the dead of winter too.

I will purposely turn around in a store parking lot if I see anyone soliciting outside their door. I can't stand it (and more because I hate saying no). Except those cute girl scouts....gotta love those Samoas!

I hate it when anyone comes to my door. The stuff is usually expensive too.
