teething- how do you know if they are waking up at night because of teething?

my dd just turned 4 months and she would sleep from 8:30/9pm to 6;30am straight.

this past week and a half, its like i have a different kid!
she has been waking up in the middle of the night and really crying.
last night she woke up at 11:30pm and then at 5am. i rocked her back to sleep at 1130pm b/c i am convinced she was in pain.
a few nights before she woke up at 2am and then at 530am.

its strange b.c when she is in my arms she still cries hard and jerks her head back. then she'll stop crying and start all over again a minute later while still in my arms....it took her a while to calm down.

what did your child at night when they were teething? did they wake up and cry really hard multiple times during the night? what did you do for them ( ie rock them back to sleep)

i def. think she is teething b.c she has really been chomping on her fingers or mine..

I think that may be early for teething... but then again, there is a wide age range for when it begins... she could just be early...

I suspect it's a growth sprut, though. DS didn't sleep well and was rather restless during them...and I believe one usually hits at that age.......

DD has had a complete sleep regression aqt 4 months, she would sleep soundly from 8 to 7ish until she hit 4 months she has been waking consistently since then whether it to be for a pacifier,or for hte past few days she's wanted to eat at 430Chat Icon I think its common unfortunately at 4 months, its a combo of growth spurts and teething etc...

I think it might be a growth spurt-do you offer her a bottle? My kids are still eating 2X in the night at 5 months(they were 1 month early tho)

My DD is 5 months and just started this, it is tough..she is waking up screaming and i have to hold her and give her a little bottle to let her suck on something, she wont take a pacifier...it is odd because her drooling has doubled and she has been much more fussy. I tried tylenol after the 3rd time last night and she slept through until the am. I cant give teething tablets due to the lactose but i have heard those work.

Honestly, i wondered about a growth spurt but my DD hardly ate even today!! She usually takes down 40oz a day and it seems to be really bothering her today. With the growth spurt, my DD would wake draining bottles, she is not really doing that now-she never woke crying until this last week which makes me think, hmmm...plus, even when she wakes hungry, she blows bubbles for a little bit, lol..she usually wakes so happy...i swear, i give up on sleep, lol!

At 4 months DS did the same thing--turned out it was a big growth spurt. A friend kept telling me not to feed him for the same reasons you stated, but I did since this was the only way he would stop crying. Since he did have a big growht spurt, I just think he was really hungry and needed more food. Try feeding more during the day, or do night feedings for a bit. DS stopped waking at some point, he didn't resume the night feedings.

If you aren't sure if he's hungry, you can try giving a bottle of water first. If DC takes that, it's probably not hunger. If DC keeps crying, it is hunger.

Could be teething also, but it's a little early. You'll see tons of drooling generally, and lots of finger sucking, gnawing during the day as well as at night.

DC is a little young for CIO, I think 6 months is the recommended age. At 4 months they really still need you too much, and may still need food during the night.

too young to CIO, I know about the bad habit, it's weird there will be like two nights she'll want to eat and then two nights where she'll take the pacifer I ALWAYS try the pacifier first and rocking her to sleep, I know if that doesn't work she's hungy..HTH!!! It does suck royallyChat Icon
