Tell me about East Northport

info on SD, area, commute to NYC via LIRR??? and anythng else you want to tell me...good or bad!

I grew up in Northport. Depending on where the house is will depend on the school district. It will either be Northport, Elwood or COmmack.

I loved the schools in Northport. As far as a town its fine....there isnt a village but you can laways go to Northport or Huntington for that.

Commute.....I never took the train from Northport because you have to either transfer at Jamaica or Huntington so i would just drive to Huntington and park there. There are more trains at huntington so I found the schedule to work better and if you know the back roads you can get to the station in no time.

they are building a HUGE comunity in e.northport. alot of it is supposed to be section 8. there were big concerns about this. google east northport and see if you can find it. it was all over the news a few months ago

My husband grew up in East Northport - Northport School District (his parents are still there), as did many of our friends.

I agree with the previous posts, including the housing proposal. It comes up and goes away every other year or so.

I think it's a great town - it was one of the few we were looking at when buying our home.

I grew up in east northport and LOVED it. I went through the Northport school district and was really fortunate to have lots of wonderful experiences. I totally recommend moving there. If it wasn't so far from work we absolutely would have looked there in our house search. The village of northport is just fantastic!

There's the three districts:

Northport
Commack
East Northport (Elwood)

According to sites that give STATS on grades, performance, teachers, spending per pupil ---- allllll that crap, it rates in the order I wrote above with Northport coming in at the best, Commack, and then Elwood.

You can look this up -- Newsday is good, MLSLIREALTOR has a search for this stuff, and then you can just google school ratings and find a ton of different sites to search STATS by.

We live in East Northport, in the El section. We are in the Elwood SD. We bought here because of the SD. We were looking at Harborfields (Greenlawn) as well. The commute isn't too bad. DH usually parks in Huntington and we are 12 minutes away from that station. Sometimes he parks at Greenlawn but there aren't as many trains. The train ride from Huntington to Manhattan is about an hour and 10 minutes. The best part about living here is that we are SO close to everything (NSP, LIE, tons of shopping, NPT and Huntington villages).

** The Elwood library programs for children are amazing! Way more programs than other libraries!

I think the Avalon Bay protests in Hunt Sta (and the Hunt Sta crisis) has caused the E Npt development to finally be looked at. I didn't hear that it was approved though.
