tell me about hair coloring?

I've never had my hair prof. dyed, only highlights once or twice.

anyway, i have a gift card for a salon where my hairdresser no longer works. i was thinking of having my hair dyed.

i have dark blonde hair, at the ends are much lighter blonde from sun-in last summer.

my real question is should i get my hair dyed one color or one color plus high-lights (I really don;t want the maintains of hi-lights)

is going darker easier or just as bad

I have natural dark blonde/light brown hair and IMO, maintaining the darker hair is more of a pain because the roots are HORRIBLE.. it's easier to deal with the growing in of the dark blonde/light brown on the highlights..

How about lowlights and highlights? if you use a caramel colored base (that's what I have now), it'll look more natural and you don't have to have it freshened up as fast
