Tell me your EASY transition to bed stories
I don't want any horror stories - so if you have any please skip this thread.
We are doing Jack's Big Boy Room on Sunday and I need to get pumped up.
This has been one of my biggest fears basically since he was about 1
On a good day he wakes up at 6:15. MOST days he's up and out of the crib by 5:45.
He still naps 2+ hours a day in his crib. I still NEED him to nap 2 hours a day.
So, tell me your easy transitioning stories.
I need to be psyched up for this.
For what it's worth, he's going straight into a full size bed. I got extra long bedrails (not sure if that will even do a thing)

Re: Tell me your EASY transition to bed stories
The bed was no biggie, he napped a few times on the floor, but he really didn't have any issues at all.

Re: Tell me your EASY transition to bed stories
Kaydyn transitioned to her bed with no problems at all. The first night we put her in it she was asleep within 5 mins and slept from 9:30ish to 7am.
She does get up every once in a while but she will play with the stuff that's in her room and go back to bed, or she'll play for a little while before going to sleep.
She slept on the floor for a few days after having the stomach virus but since then she's been fine.
I'm sure he will do great
ETA: We do have some problems with her napping now, but she still has to go in her room for 2 hours and rest whether or not she goes to sleep. I don't think it's the bed though I think it's the age.

Re: Tell me your EASY transition to bed stories
We but DD into a big girl bed when she was about 19 months (we needed the crib for DS) We set up bedrails and put the bed against the rail. She did great from night 1. I think DH and I were the ones that had the hardest time with the transition! For the first few weeks in the morning when she woke up she would sit in her bed and wait for us. Now she gets out of her bed and quietly plays in her room until we come for her (we close her door at night since her bedroom is on the first floor and ours is on the second) She naps better in her bed then she ever did in her crib too!

Re: Tell me your EASY transition to bed stories
Noah went right into his bed, Slept in it the very first night no issues and you KNOW he has issues. Thankfully this was super easy!
We go through phases of keeping him in it though. Right now he wakes and comes into our bed. If we "Feel" him, back in his bed he goes, sometimes Id ont even feel him and wake up and he is there...but based on the extent of the sleeping issues he had, over all it was a pretty darn smooth transition.

Re: Tell me your EASY transition to bed stories
we reallly talked up the whole "big girl" thing for days and then when she saw the bed in her "big girl" room she asked to sleep in it. we set up the rails and never looked back! she naps fine in it and sleeps through the night.
however i cried the first night because it really hit me that she was no longer a baby:(

Re: Tell me your EASY transition to bed stories
We had no transition at all! I had her in the bed for naps for a couple of days/a week maybe and then put her in full-time and that was that! EASY! Hope the same for you!!
Talk to me next month though...that's when I'm planning on making the switch with #2!

Re: Tell me your EASY transition to bed stories
DH transformed the crib to the day bed.
We put DS to sleep that night in his new bed.
He woke up the next morning in his new bed.
The end.
It was that easy (and my son isn't always so easy)!

Re: Tell me your EASY transition to bed stories
Here's how it went...mommy and DD went to the store to buy bed on Friday...delivered on Saturday. Mommy freaked out because she couldn't dismantle the crib when the delivery guys wouldn't do it for her (even after I offered $$ ) Got the crib taken apart (not really as hard as I thought it would be), and got the bed all put together with sheets/blanket/pillow, etc. Mollie went to sleep that night...never once tried to get out. She's been in her big girl bed for a few months...and still WON'T get out until I come and tell her it's ok to get out.
Couldn't have been easier Good luck!

Re: Tell me your EASY transition to bed stories
Nate LOVED his crib, never tried to climb out ever and used to dive in when we'd get near it. He's a very routine kid and I was terrified to transfer him. We totally psyched him up for his new firetruck room and when it was all set up he was so excited to sleep in it. He's never looked back and his crib is even still empty in the nursery next door to him. He's knows how to get in and out but still waits for us to come get him just like in his crib. We do still use his blankets from the crib instead of his new bedding (that stays folded at the end of the bed). All of his stuffed animals surround him and I think those with the bedrails make him feel as comfy as in the crib.
So there is hope for an easy transition! Good luck

no issue at all, matter of fact he slept better in the "big boy bed" I think he felt trapped in the crib

Re: Tell me your EASY transition to bed stories
Sophia LOVED her crib but she wasn't sleeping well so I thought a bed might work better (i have no idea why I thought this lol).
One day we bought the bed, set it up and told her she's a big girl and gets to sleep in her new princess bed (we bought princess sheets). That was it. She went to sleep fine that night and never asked for her crib again. At night she never gets out of bed. She may sing and stuff for a while before falling asleep but never gets out.
Now naps is a different story. I think she's transitioning out of naps but I still put her in every day. Some days she stays in the bed. Others she takes out her puzzles and plays on the floor and if she gets tired she goes back to the bed. I leave her in there though even if she's playing for some "down time".
Good luck!

Re: Tell me your EASY transition to bed stories
We went from the crib to a twin...with no problems at all. I had DH put bed together, I got new bedding, and made the bed and put a ton of her favorite stuffed animals.
When I got home with her, I told her I had a surprise...that she had a new bedroom!! And we made a big deal out of it...
She's slept in it from that night on. She usually stays in it and calls for me when she wakes up...sometimes she'll get up, but not too often.

Re: Tell me your EASY transition to bed stories
Went right in his big boy bed. no issue at all
We were worried because its a captains bed so it's higher off the ground than typical beds, so we just left a little step stool by the bed and even with that he did fine...We did put a gate in his doorway

He went into the bed and that was it. No issues at all. He went to the bed and woke up the same time. The only thing he did do was drop his nap.

Re: Tell me your EASY transition to bed stories
One day he came home and found his crib transformed into a bed. He was into helcopters at the time, so I bought him a huge heli and placed it on his bed. We played with it on his bed for a little while. When it was time for bed....we walked in his room, placed him in bed and it was night night!
He will be fine.

Re: Tell me your EASY transition to bed stories
DD will be 2 1/2 next weekend. Last weekend we took off the front of the crib and put on the toddler rail. She jumped up and down and kept talking about her "new bed" and climbing in and out of it.
At bedtime DH went through the same routine he does every night (I was out with friends), and he reported no problems. It's been almost a week and we continue to follow the same bedtime routine we did before and no problems at all.

Re: Tell me your EASY transition to bed stories
We had a pretty easy transition-I was so nervous but it went really well.
Claire got out of bed 1 time, I set up the PNP in her room and said if she did it again she would have to sleep in the PNP because only big girls who stay in bed get to sleep in bed. Problem fixed.
She doesn't sleep well, but she stays in bed and I don't think it has to do with the fact that she is in a bed.
It's never as bad as I think it is going to be
Good luck!

Re: Tell me your EASY transition to bed stories
Honestly, we just set up his room, and after a week of getting ready, he one night just asked to sleep in his big boy bed and never looked back. Never got out of it, even now he still doesnt get out of it in the morning and its been 9 months or so, he just calls for us in the morning.

Re: Tell me your EASY transition to bed stories
DD transitioned with zero issues. She treats it like a big crib, we find her in all weird positions, and it took her a few months to realize she could climb in & out of it on her own. For awhile she was still calling for us every morning.
I will say, now that she can climb in & out, she plays in the morning before she hollers for me to come and open the door, so more sleep time for mommy .

Re: Tell me your EASY transition to bed stories
My 2 transitioned really well into beds. The only problem they had was that we seperated them into seperate rooms at the same time and DS was missing his sister. Other than that, they did great. We explained to them the rule is that once your rail is up, you do NOT get out of bed. They've stuck to it.
