terrible twos!!!!! When did it start and when did it end?!?!!
DD for the most part is a good girl...she is 28 mos right now and the past few weeks it's been my way or the highway, and if she doesn't get her way all hell breaks loose..there are times where her tantrum can be diverted and other times where I literally need to walk away and just let her get it out...
Is this terrible twos or just a spoiled child and if it is the terrible twos when does it end!!! With new DD coming pretty soon there are days that I think what the he!! did I get myself into

Re: terrible twos!!!!! When did it start and when did it end?!?!!
Tantrums we ignore. No attention, negative or positive, and they end faster.
We've been doing time-outs since 18 months and other than the occasional bad day, they usually work well.
I know you don't want to hear this but as they get more verbal, it gets worse A few days ago it was "No, mommy YOU stop!"

OH yah I have that already!!!! I have her saying "No mommy you stay here, I don't want you there" and trying to hold me in place I do time outs...the problem with tantrums is when I ignore I have DH or MIL or my mom trying to kiss her and make her stop I lose it on them then We do time outs but on the most part it sends her into more of a tail spin

Re: terrible twos!!!!! When did it start and when did it end?!?!!
DS is 26 months and it started right after he turned 2. He is very verbal so while he doesn't really tantrum, we just argue over everything...I swear all I do is negotiate with him all day about everything.
Right now, he has to wear black socks everyday (he thinks he's a 90 year old man ) and Cookie Monster on his diaper It's exhausting. Also, you try to give him something he wants, he'll cry and say no, but then 2 minutes later ask for it again.

OMG DD does this too, u want this, NO, two minutes later she cries for it. I swear I say these kids either have multiple personalities or I'm going insane
And negotiating, I feel like middle east peace is easier than this!

The "terrible two's" end around 3 years old, and that's when you wish they were *only* doing the terrible two stuff.....
4 isn't much easier, either.....
At 5, give or take, they start becoming human again....

D to the ITTO!!!!
Everything is a battle with DS.
Even rewards have turned into tantrums.
Yesterday morning he earned a lollipop for staying in bed all night.
He picked out a blue one. Opened it and realized the stick was bent.
Freaked out and demanded a yellow one instead.
I said no because he had already licked the blue one.
He said "I"m going to throw the lollipop on the floor and stomp on it"
And that's exactly what he did and the after stomping on his lollipop, threw himself on the ground and went into full on tantrum mode.
Went into time out. what a lovely morning!
It's just too much to handle!

Re: terrible twos!!!!! When did it start and when did it end?!?!!
My kids do that as well, try to make me sit in specific chair, fight each other to be "my baby." This is a game they created where they lay acros my lap like a baby and I hold their sippy cup like a bottle I hve found that the more I give them their way the more they expect it. So I try to determine what are the "big deal" items and the smaller ones. If they want to read a book...yes I do that. If they emand that I sit or stand, I usually don't. Mostly I use distraction

Re: terrible twos!!!!! When did it start and when did it end?!?!!
Jen - Samantha has been beyond awful lately. I can't even begin to describe it. I've been in the midst of a complete mental breakdown this week. My grandmother is here visiting and even she said she has never seen anything like this before. I almost left my 85 year old grandmother with both of the kids yesterday because I couldn't take Samantha anymore.
All I know is that I cannot go on like this much longer ( I know I have no choice). Time outs, while she will sit for them, are a complete joke to her.
I wish I had an answer to stopping them, or how to handle them. Ignorning makes it worse, to the point where she will start smacking her head on the floor (tile floor no less), right now she has a HUGE bruise on her forehead Last night I put her in a time out for the head banging, but the minute it was over and she didn't get what she wanted, she was back on the floor smacking her head against it.

This gives me hope that I may only have a few more months of this nonsense.

ugh, DS is 13 months old and is the same way! He'll arch his back and start screaming for a variety of reasons....doesn't want his diaper changed, doesn't want to get dressed/undressed, doesn't want to go into the carseat...

It started at 12 months with both kids and I see no end in sight. It's hard to reason with a 3 year old

Re: terrible twos!!!!! When did it start and when did it end?!?!!
DS is the same way lately. I thought it was because he was not getting as much attention since the baby was born. He literally cracks up in my face when I give him A time out. When I threaten him with one he goes into corner by himself where I would normally place him, turns around and says "I'm sorry" then gets up and goes back to doing what he is not supposed to. Good times....no!
