Re: Would you go to a dinner party at a restaurant night before trip
Posted by Summer123
We have an early morning flight to Caribbean for a long awaited vacation. We were invited to a dinner party for a friend of my DH the night before on a Sunday night. I honestly don't know how I am going to go to this at night and stay for this and go home and get to sleep for my trip the next morning. I have to get up around 4:00-4:30 AM. We usually spend the day home before a trip like this and finish packing. This is a night time dinner event and also a surprise so we will be there for a while. My DH is the type to say he will leave early but never does. I also dont know how to leave a sit down dinner by a certain time.
If it’s a good friend, I’d go and leave as soon as coffee is done. If DH gives you trouble, make it a point to tell him you will go home and he can Uber home when he’s done so you can get ready.
When we go away and have to leave that early, I usually don’t sleep bc waking up is impossible (but that’s me)

Re: Would you go to a dinner party at a restaurant night before trip
For me it would be a no. I'm way too stressed out and busy the day before a trip. I have to shave, tan, finish packing, get to bed early to wake up at 4 am. No way would I be able to go to a dinner party

If its a good friend, then yes. If your hubby wants to stay later than you, he can Uber home.

What time is the party? Can you call the host and ask around what time it might end? Maybe it will just be 2 to 3 hours and you may be able to go after you've finished packing and still get home in time to have a decent amount of sleep. If you can do all your packing and other errands on Saturday and early Sunday, you might be able to squeeze it in.

I think they should understand if you can't make it. Packing and preparing for a trip is stressful, and it's completely understandable to not want to be completely exhausted on the first day of your trip.

Re: Would you go to a dinner party at a restaurant night before trip
I would just plan accordingly and make sure you are completely packed prior to leaving for the party. But I would let the host know you have an early flight and you have to leave early. Set a time you are comfortable with (9/9:30 or so) and just get up, say good bye and leave. If your husband wants to stay later, he can Uber as a PP suggested.

Re: Would you go to a dinner party at a restaurant night before trip
I know you said it's DH's friend, so if I were also close with the person, I think I would go for just a little while and leave early...and DH could Uber home if he wants to stay later. Otherwise, I would probably skip given how early you have to wake up, and if DH wants to go, he can.

Just the thought of having to get dressed up the night before exhausts me. I will be dressing up every night on my vacation. I'm also concerned how to leave when its a dinner.
Let the host know in advance that you'll be leaving early. When you see the guest of honor, say that you have to leave early. It's fine to do.

Same. I’d be too stressed specially when my flight is that early.

I just dont know how I can get up in the middle of a meal at a restaurant.
It sounds like you aren’t up for it. Don’t go then. You H can just go on his own.

Yeah, you can leave before dessert, but not while people are still eating their main course. That's just too weird.
It really sounds like you don't want to go. If your husband can go alone, that's fine. Otherwise, just decline. I'm sure they'll understand.

I genuinely don't see why this would be a problem at a celebration for a friend. I'd think that a friend would understand. You aren't doing something bad.
However, it does not seem like you want to go, which is totally fine! Stay home, and DH can go if he wants.

This wouldnt be an issue if it was on a different night, even one night earlier. I dont know how to leave when its a sit down dinner. Its also a surprise so it will be longer waiting for him to arrive. My DH had a retirement party last year (mostly guys but some wives) and this wife wasnt there. I thought she would be. Thats totally fine but I do this to myself. Also, my dh is going to give me a hard time. He doesn’t miss anything.
In that case ,I'd tell him to go alone. You stay home and do all your last minute stuff and get to bed early.

OMG My DH is always like- why are you so stressed out for trips? Um, let's see. Because I have to pack myself, make sure my daughter is packed properly, pack all the toiltrees, pack all the beach gear, pack all the stuff for the kitchenette like coffee pods, creamer, snacks, booze, etc, make sure we have sunscreen, medications, vitamins, a garment steamer, q tips, lotion, etc. And he has to throw his underwear, socks, bathing suit and a few shirts in a bag 10 minutes before we leave.
But rest assured we'll be on the trip and he'll ask me for a tweezer or a band aid, or Benadryl cream for an itch, or bug spray or Truvia packets for coffee, or some other random item and I will have it every.single.time. Does he think those things just MAGICALLY appear? Um, no, I remember them. have lists of things to help me remember. I shop for weeks before to get these things. So yes, that's why I'm so stressed out with packing! OK, vent over! As you can see we have a trip coming up!

Yes, yes, yes.
I have printed out lists for all of us but you KNOW I will be saying, did you remember this or that.
