Re: Tragedy in teacher's family- WWYD?
Don't email the teacher. Send a card in to school if you want to express your concern and well wishes. The last thing she's probably thinking of is checking her work email.
Definitely contact the co-teacher regarding doing something for the family, but see if you have support from the other parents first (although I'm sure most people would be all for it. ) that's very sweet and thoughtful of you.
My prayers go out to that poor teacher and her family.

Tragedy in teacher's family- WWYD?
I don't see anything wrong with an email. The sentiment would be much appreciated no matter how it's sent. Just say you are so sorry to hear about her husband and she is in your thoughts, etc. Definitely contact the co-teacher. That's really kind of you!

I say email.
I didn't finish the year last year because of my own out of the blue medical issue, and I really appreciated the email I received from a handful of parents. They still check up on me from time to time (on medical sabbatical this year) and it means a lot to know that people care.

There's nothing wrong with it, but if I were in her place I probably wouldn't check my work email and wouldn't see it.

Email. I'm a teacher, and my work email goes to my phone, I see it all the time. I'd appreciate it.

I would definitely do an email. Even if she didn't see it right away the sentiment will still be appreciated. If you do a collection, I would do something like an edible arrangement. It seems like in these situations people end up with lots of baked goods so fresh fruit would probably be appreciated if she's not getting to the supermarket easily. If you have more to spend maybe add a gc to a pizza place or somewhere they could pick up dinner.

Thank you for the replies. I sent her a very short email, just letting her know we were thinking of her and her family. I also emailed the co-teacher to see if there was anything being done to help them, or if classroom help was needed while the replacement gets acclimated.
