Re: Your thoughts on vaccinations? Anyone out there decide NOT to vaccinate their children?

Since you're specifically asking for people's "opinions" I'll share mine, but I'm not looking to get into an argument with people over the subject either. I think immunization is a necessity if we enjoy the longer lifespans that we now enjoy since we have eliminated things like consumption, TB, polio, etc.

I think those that choose not to vaccinate their child are imposing their will on everyone b/c vaccination only works if all of society participate. You are taking the rest of us for granted by exposing us, both adults and children by not immunizing your own. I think immunizing your children is something you do for 2 reasons, one to prevent them from developing these life-threatening illnesses and secondly to help to erradicate them from our society and keep them at bay. But of course, it goes without saying but I'll say it anyway that this is just my opinion.

Chat Icon I completely agree.... I will be vaccinating, but will do the staggered schedule.

Here in MD, NO child (now including those in high school) is allowed to enroll in public school unless they've been vaccinated.

are they allowed to discriminate against religious beliefs there? I know in NY schools are not allowed to do that....

Same in the UK, your child can not be admitted to a school or daycare if they are not vaccinated

Re: Your thoughts on vaccinations? Anyone out there decide NOT to vaccinate their children?

This is really a personal choice and everyone has there own advice for this.. Either way you decide to give shots is not the wrong way..

That being said, We chose not to split up any shots, We did however make sure there was no Thimerserol in the shots. Whatever way, our pediatrician gives the shots is what we did.

I am lucky enough to have my brother who is pediatrician to discuss different topics with. I do trust his judgement on what is right for my son and his nephew.. He would not steer me the wrong way on anything.. He recommends giving the shots as per the AMA and they way your doctor gives them out. There is not enough research to say anything else..

I wil say Jacob just got him MMR a 2 weeks ago and it is a doozy of a shot for a good week after but he is fine now...

Re: Your thoughts on vaccinations? Anyone out there decide NOT to vaccinate their children?

My nephew (my brother's son) has austism...my daughter is vaccinated. He said if they have other children he will get those children vaccinated as well.

From what I understand You cannot give "some" vaccines and go to a public school. If you are against vaccines for religious reasons then you need to be against them all, not just the ones you don't want. You should also consult a vaccine attorney about dealing with the schools.

Personally I do not want a non-vaccinated person on a plane with me or in school with my child.
