I agree but this is a child with a life threatening illness.
I've read plenty of stories where the celebrity has sent gifts or even a personalized video in lieu of not being able to personally meet the person..
All I'm saying is that among her team of people, no one could have made at least that possible? or done something?
shame on her.
ITA. Even if they just brought him to a taping of the show or something!

In the past year, I was at a big award celebration where she won an award. She had time then, I am surprised that she couldn't make time to send a book or anything. I am sure she gets requests but this is make a wish. I'm sad for the child.

Seconding the PP who said they were more disgusted that this was published.
For all we know... they just contacted her for two different instances where she was previously booked.
Nowhere does it say that she was asked to meet with him 'at any time that would be open for her.'
Again - had it been me I probably would've replied the first time with 'Oh so sorry I can't make it at this specific time -- I'm available on this day or this day etc.'
But - it doesn't state that this did or did not happen.
So I'm not going to get judgey on her.

totally agree
everyone gets so up in arms over ONE SIDE of the story all the time - and a side presented by TMZ no less.. hardly the bastion of accurate news reporting.
maybe everyone should stop bashing her before hearing her side of things. For all we know there WAS an effort made, but it doesn't make for as good a story does it?

While it is admirable to take the time to make a wish come true, I don't fault a celebrity who doesn't do it. They are inundated with requests from fans all of the time and also need to run their own careers not to mention their involvement in scores of charities of their own choosing.
I'm more disgusted that it was published.
My co-worker's daughter was a Make-A-Wish recipient. Her coordinator told her how truly amazing Michael Jordan was but volunteered that another celebrity continually refused requests for one child for years. I googled because I was surprised a B list actor would turn down publicity. Turns out that guy ran his own charity, was very involved with the kids in that camp & had done numerous Make-A-Wish dreams come true.

Totally agree. This is one side, of one story. Who knows what her side is OR how many adults/children she does meet/help through this charity (since it states she's a good friend of the charity). I think it's typical news sensation.

wow..is she serious?? I looked into the Make a Wish foundation for my daughter earlier this year and I read some inspiring stories from other celebrities. Mariah Carey, Beyonce and a bunch of other really famous ppl have donated their time and money to this charity and this woman who cooks on a silly show cannot find time to cook with a sick little boy.
I never watched her but my MIL loves her and has bought me a few cook books from her, which will now go in the garbage.
so disappointing.

Wow, talk about flipping out on someone without knowing all the facts. Think some people just love to hate on others. I have met Ina( she is related to a friend of mine) and she is a kind and generous person. She is not bitchy as some people have said, she is the total opposite of bitchy.

I really don't get the bashing either. Only because a 6 yo is involved. While this is a sad story there are MANY MANY children who will never get to see their dream realized. Sounds someone is having a field day on this one to make her look bad.
I mean who is behind this? The 6 yo? Really? I seriously doubt it. Someone (parents, media... ) has an agenda because they did not get to see her. I think it has everything to do with bitterness.
We know NOTHING of her involment in other charities, career obligations or anything else.
The fundation DID say she was involved. Maybe she can only help financially. Which is more I am sure than most people who posted here.

I worked for her in 1999 and she definitely was a nice, sweet, considerate person. This was before she had her show (and substantial fame), so it is possible she's no longer as nice as she used to be, but I'm willing to give her the benefit of the doubt here.
Maybe she had a nephew/niece who died at a young age and she can't bear to go through this MAW experience? I know there are some charities I can't get involved with because of my past experiences, and while I would like to think I'd try my best to help out in SOME WAY, maybe Ina is helping out in another way that she's more comfortable with --- but the media's putting a negative spin on this?
Just my 0.02....I find it hard to believe she's being cold.

I thought the same thing though in her defense. Or maybe she doesn't know how to interact with children all that well and it makes her uncomfortable? Esp with a sick child? I have a weird feelign this is the case.
