... wouldn't have been the move I personally would've made.
I just don't see how its any of our business.
Seconding the PP who said they were more disgusted that this was published.
For all we know... they just contacted her for two different instances where she was previously booked.
Nowhere does it say that she was asked to meet with him 'at any time that would be open for her.'
Again - had it been me I probably would've replied the first time with 'Oh so sorry I can't make it at this specific time -- I'm available on this day or this day etc.'
But - it doesn't state that this did or did not happen.
So I'm not going to get judgey on her.
You said that better than i could..
totally agree
everyone gets so up in arms over ONE SIDE of the story all the time. Stop the extreme rush to judgment people!! Totally agree. This is one side, of one story. Who knows what her side is OR how many adults/children she does meet/help through this charity (since it states she's a good friend of the charity). I think it's typical news sensation.
Completely agree with everything the girls said! I am SURE it has been blown out of proportion to NO end!

I agree with all of this and MrsFatthead.
I think it stinks for this kid, but he did have a wish fulfilled. No one knows what she does with her money or time.
I still love Ina.

Re: The Barefoot Contessa - Ina Garten - how disgusting is this
What is telling to me is that her publicist did confirm that she did not make the time to see the child, or even send something....
Yet Garten's rep all but confirmed that it's true, saying that: "despite her demanding schedule, [Ina] participates and helps as many organizations as she can throughout the year, helping children and adults like Enzo with life threatening and compromising illnesses."
I mean, I was there when she took a full day to win an award last year so its just sooo surprising that she didn't have the time to do something....unless she did and we aren't hearing about it.
If it is true, what a shame.

Wow, talk about flipping out on someone without knowing all the facts. Think some people just love to hate on others. I have met Ina( she is related to a friend of mine) and she is a kind and generous person. She is not bitchy as some people have said, she is the total opposite of bitchy.
The fundation DID say she was involved. Maybe she can only help financially. Which is more I am sure than most people who posted here.
For some reason I found this a bit insulting In one breath you say we don't know how much she helps $$ and to not judge then you suggest people on here do not help as well. No matter what my situation is, and how I do or do not help, does not mean I am not entitled to an opinion. I find it horrible and I will no longer support her career. That is my decision and I am not ashamed or do I feel I should have to defend this by describing the ways I help Make-A-Wish or any other charity.

Re: The Barefoot Contessa - Ina Garten - how disgusting is this
Food Network star Beau MacMillan and "Iron Chef" Michael Symon are both reaching out to 6-year-old Enzo ... hoping they can fill the void Garten left after she turned down the kid's "wish" to cook a meal together.
In fact, MacMillan tells us he's ready to fly Enzo and his entire family out to Arizona STAT -- put them up in a fancy resort and treat them all to a VIP dinner at his 5-star restaurant.
MacMillan says he also wants to bring Enzo into the kitchen so they can prepare the meal together. As for Symon -- the chef tells us he'll be in Enzo's home state of Oregon in the very near future and would be more than happy to swing by Enzo's house to "cook a dish" with him too.

Well, it is just as insulting as people jumping on some story that we don't know all the facts about. Do you know HER side of the story? Who is being this quest to put her down? What kind of story is that? Somebody must have an agenda. That's quite apparent.
We all jump on our high horses that she is not helping this kid meanwhile the organization said she had help them. How much we don't know ....BUT...I am sure PLENTY of people who responded here may be contributing NOTHING or less that she probably did.
I find it rather hypcocritical!!! IMO!!!

Re: The Barefoot Contessa - Ina Garten - how disgusting is this
OMG.
I am sorry, I don't care WHAT Ina's schedule is like, but she could have found ONE day to spend with this little boy if she truly had a heart. He did wait for 3 years, ask her ONCE before, and to me it's clear she isn't interested in making the time for him. In her defense, maybe she feels sad or uncomfortable or doesn't know how to interact with him. She doesn't seem like much a "kid" person to begin with. But regardless, then make a personalized video for him or something to make up for it.
Come on now INA.
I give this mom kudos for what she wrote and how she has handled it.

I really don't get the bashing either. Only because a 6 yo is involved. While this is a sad story there are MANY MANY children who will never get to see their dream realized. Sounds someone is having a field day on this one to make her look bad.
I mean who is behind this? The 6 yo? Really? I seriously doubt it. Someone (parents, media... ) has an agenda because they did not get to see her. I think it has everything to do with bitterness.
We know NOTHING of her involment in other charities, career obligations or anything else.
The fundation DID say she was involved. Maybe she can only help financially. Which is more I am sure than most people who posted here.
Agreed. I wonder how many other celebs had to turn down requests from Make-A-Wish and we just don't know about it.

Re: The Barefoot Contessa - Ina Garten - how disgusting is this
I don't find this surprising at all. She is well known for being a B**** with a capital B.
I worked with a guy who lived in East Hampton and she is notorious for doing nasty things. I'm not sure of the exact series of events but she use to own a store and decided to sell to work on her cookbooks and tv shows. She sold it to her employees for top dollar then decided she was pulling all her recipes/blacklisted the store and basically drove the store into the ground then bought the store back for a hugely reduced price. So basically she screwed over her former employees.
I don't care how busy she is or how many requests she gets, she could have picked up the phone and called the boy or sent over some autographed cookbooks or pots or something to make the poor boy happy. I totally understand her maybe not being able to see him in person because of scheduling but to just dismiss him is unkind and cruel.

and her other pals she always has on the show. I guess it's more important to cook a meal for the guy who fixed a windmill in town.

She should be ashamed of herself

I think this sounds like it might ruin Ina's career. If she gave money I think her publicist would have mentioned that, so probably not the case.

Re: The Barefoot Contessa - Ina Garten - how disgusting is this
sweet sweet Jesu.
Enzo has ALWAYS had a rare and peaceful perspective on the world, his life, his situation and especially his cancer. This is a child who has NEVER wanted to hurt his cancer or “kick it’s butt” because he truly believes that in turn it will just cause more hurt and pain and that instead, giving it friendship and love will neutralize it and change it from bad cells to good cells and it will move on in peace. He still prays at night to “bless me and bless my cancer” and one of his main concerns and Q’s is; Where does his cancer go when it leaves his body? He is worried that it may leave his body and go to another child and he doesn’t want that. So he has spent a lot of time and energy “OM’ing” as he likes to call it, to try and move his cancer on to a neutral place where it cannot hurt anyone else.
I don't know what to think about Ina. I don't "get" it at all..the ability to say NO. I would be willing to bet my farm that very very few CHILDREN ask Ina to participate in their big WISH (I pray so hard to God right now that this is not his final wish. I pray pray pray that he has many many years of many many FULFILLED wishes ahead of him) so for this not to be so huge in her life...an honor and a blessing I just cannot understand for my life.
but this little gorgeous boy. I cannot put any more negativity in the air about Ina or anyone else after reading what his mom wrote about who he is, how he feels, and the way he views life.
he is a blessing beyond words or measure. I will pray for him every day.
and I want to thank Ina for saying NO. b/c surely we would not have known about him if she had said yes. and I can only see such publicitty helping him more than cooking with her ever could.
