I had just met my now husband and you can only imagine what we did in the dark repeatedly

I had a friend visiting from OOS and had decided to take the day off to go into the City. (Her mother thought the City was a big bad evil place and was not happy about her daughter going there. Before we left I *promised* her nothing bad would happen!) We drove in and I still have the stamped ticket from the parking garage - I parked my car in an elevated garage literally 2 minutes before we lost power - so there was no way to get my car out! We were going to a concert in Central Park - the concert was still held, but ended early because they wanted everyone out before it went dark. We had a friend who lived on 32nd St, but she was stuck at work in Westchester and couldn't get home. We couldn't get in touch with her (had planned to meet up with her later that night), but decided to walk to her apt anyway. Lucky for us, she she had gotten in touch with her doorman who let us in to her apartment! We stayed there, drank her alcohol  and waited until the parking garage got power back the next day so I could get my car

I was at work. Left shortly after the blackout occurred, as nobody at that time knew exactly what had happened. Then walked up to the italian ice store and got free ices. Nothing too exciting.

I was talking on the phone (while driving bad me) to my boyfriend now DH. The phone hung up and then all of a sudden all the lights went out as I was driving. It was REALLY scary! DH thought he caused the black out because he had his tv, ac, phone, etc full blast!

I don't remember exactly where I was, that week is a total blur. We had buried my father just 2 days prior so I am sure my head was all over the place.
I do remember my brother driving my sister and I to my friends house. We almost died, driving in the dark with no lights. Stupid looking back.

working in NYC...walked down 24 flights of stairs. Hung around my building until my husband walked from his office to meet me. It was dark by then. We walked down 6h ave and a black town car puled up and my husband asked him how much to take us home. He looked it up in his book and said $120!!!  we said SOLD.
When we got home around 3am...out power was back on and the guy filled his tank back up and drove back to NYC,
What a night and a few couple of days after that!!

I was working in NYC and had to walk down 44 flights!
Then I trekked over to the 59th street bridge and strolled across it with a few thousand other people, then hitched a ride to Mineola train station where my sister picked me up.
I got home, showered by candle light and then hit up the bars! Couldn't let all that beer go to waste!

I was at work as an intern at the time.
my bigger issue is - HOW was this 10 years ago?! OMG does time really go this fast?! Sooo crazy and kind of scary.

since it lasted overnigt i cant exactly remember where i was but i was at both at home and at work ; i def. went to work the next day though i still had no power at home. i worked at waldbaums and they had generators.
so a friend has reminded me what i was doing  i was at the broadway mall trying on clothes in the dressing room and the power went out dorve back to her house with no traffic lights and walked around and hung out ... i really cant believe i forgot about all that

Coming home from a Radiohead show the night before in Boston on the Bridgeport/Port Jeff ferry, totally oblivious...followed by a lot of drinking by candlelight on DH's sunporch with his roommates.

I was at work at Hofstra. It was towards the end of the day at a Freshman Orientation and we had just finished advising a ton of students. Definitely remember everyone being nervous initially thinking some type of terrorist attack. I don't remember the drive home to Long Beach but I remember taking a walk on the boardwalk that night and the beach was amazing. Tons of people out with candles, etc and for once, you could see every star in the sky because everything else was pitch black! DH was stuck at work on an ambulance in FLushing.

I was 16 & working at McDonalds. I hadnt eaten alllll day & had just gone on break. I was ordering food as the power went out. My mom was at my brother's soccer game & when I called her to pick me up she was so confused because in the park she hadnt noticed anything happened!

Home waiting to pick up DH (then fiancee) from work because we only had one car at the time. All the phone lines were jammed so I got in the car and tried driving to his job in Westbury. There was sooooo much traffic that my car ended up overheating and blocking two lanes of Old Country Road. I had no way of getting in touch with anyone, had no money on me, and was stuck.
A few minutes later, a tow truck pulled up and the man said another driver had flagged him down and told him where I was broken down. He towed my car for me and refused to take any money from me. I was so blown away by his kindness.
Poor DH ended up walking home lol

Maybe you were in Freeport or Rockville Centre? They had their own power supply and didn't have a blackout.

I was a graduate student at Pace University, in downtown Manhattan. I was in the counseling center and had to walk down only 5 flights, I think. I was terrified that it was terrorist-related, and the streets filled with people was reminiscent of 9/11. I remember waiting at a pay phone to call DH (we were engaged at that time) and my 97 year old grandmother, who was alone in Brooklyn. My parents were in Aruba and my sister and family were on Shelter Island. I walked down to the S.I. ferry, and waited for DH, who walked down from W 31st St so that I wouldn't have to go home and be home alone. From the ferry, we took a bus to my neighborhood, and I remember not even recognizing the intersection where we got off without any lights on!
