The dog bit me - RANT!!
So my SO and I were at his friends house. They have 2 dogs...a Bichon and a rescued maltese. Both are really cute and took an immediate liking to me...not really sure why but they were jumping on my lap and trying to lick my face. When I would stand they were jumping up on my leg. Now we were there with a few other people and these dogs were just into me...maybe they smelled my cat...but I thought that would deter them.
Who knows...well i was sitting on the couch and the maltese...who everyone was shocked was all over me because he is usually not social...lays down on my lap. I pet it...all is good and then for no reason it bit my hand. There was no sudden noise...no movement on my end...just my hand on the arm of the chair and he just went at it with a huge growl and big aggression. I didn't freak...I have been around dogs...but my hand was bleeding and the owners didn't do anything except get me a bandaid. They didn't discipline the dog at all...nothing...just a I am so sorry...as my finger is swelling up and bleeding.
We left shortly after and my SO was furious. He said this dog has done this to him before and these people did nothing. SO was expecting a call to see how my hand was and NOTHING! All the teeth marks are just bruised looking except one tooth really broke the skin and is causing swelling and the area is all purple and red...ughh!
I just think this is wrong...and if this dog just flies off the handle for no reason it shouldnt be around guests. The couple said the dog does this to them too.

Re: The dog bit me - RANT!!
Owners who aren't in control of their dogs are to blame for these things, in my opinion. That instinct to bite came from somewhere and isn't being corrected. How long until the dog bites a child and has a lawsuit on their hands? Until they are forced to put the dog down?
I'm constantly amazed at how casually people treat dogs. The take no interest in what they need and then are surprised when they act out.
I hope you heal up soon!

It is so true. They have no control over these dogs. After it bit me seconds later the dog was on the womans lap and she was stroking it. These are nice people, they love their dogs and take good care of them but they are really not doing the right thing here. The woman said she is not good with tough love...I had to get out of there before I spoke my mind. If it was my friend I would have said something.

Just an FYI, you should go to a Dr. and get antibiotics. Dog saliva can easily cause an infection and should be treated.

I can't believe the owners didn't do anything. I would be MORTIFIED if my dog bit anyone and would've done anything I could to help.
Hope your finger gets better... and I agree with the PP... I'd go have a Dr. check it out.

PLEASE PLEASE get to a Dr. and get antibiotics!!
DH got a teeny tiny bite, wasn't even bleeding, and it got infected. It was very dangerous because it was on his knuckle and could have traveled into his nervous system. It is urgent that you get this taken care of!!
And BTW, those "parents" are neglectful and ignorant. I would never visit them again - heck I don't know that I would even speak to them again if this is how they reacted...

Re: The dog bit me - RANT!!
The exact same thing happen at my good friends house.. Her dog was sitting on another friends lap and she was petting him.. all of the sudden he turned around jumped up and bit her right on the lip .. She didnt stop bleedng and has a scar to this day.. Well she did dicipline the dog but this dog has even bit her on the lip and gave ger over 20 stitches.. It just amazes me why any dog owwner would allow there dogs that are capable of biting near any people.. its one thing if you want to put up with it but how could anyone one take chances like that.. Its just stupid!!! And unnecessary.. Put the dog in a crate or lock him in another room.. My other friend who was there was so angry she left!! She screamed before she walked out to have the dogs teeth removed or put him to sleep! It was a very awkward night after that,, I can really relate to this..

THANK YOU FOR YOUR ADVICE AND CONCERN!!
I went to the doctor this morning and she put me on antibiotics. My finger was no better this morning and really red almost purple still and I was having trouble bending it. You guys scared me but it was good cause it got me to take care of this today! I had a tetnus shot in the last 5 years so I was good there.
Thanks again

I'm sorry but they should have done right by you. I had a similiar situation happen at my brother's house on Christmas Eve. This "cousin" of my future SIL brought her Bichon because after all, she can't leave it home alone on Christmas Eve She brings it in dressed as Santa and Amber/other children present ran over to greet the dog. As soon as the words flew out of my mouth to not get near to the dog the thing LUNGED at Amber and started attacking her. I freaked out and shoved it away from my daughters face. My daughter was HYSTERICALLY crying. The f'ing dog bit my hand in two places!! The owner's husband was visabilly upset and apologized over and over, meanwhile she sat there b!tching that there was "too many" people in the house and her dog doesn't like children. So then why the F would you bring it?!? Her husband insisted it stay in the car, while she sat in the corner scowling at me. I wanted to kick her and the dog in the arse!!! What would make you bring a ill tempered animal to a holiday event where there would be the potential of danger there?!? Is it that freakin important that you have your dog there?!? This is not an OOT'er..they live 20 minutes away. What if someone was allergic?!? Luckily John wasn't there because he would have punted the dog like a football across the house. My Mom even broke out the C word to describe this woman, so you know the scene had to be bad LOL!!!
So sorry you were hurt I would make a point of NOT visiting these individuals houses again, unless they agree to put their animals up. It was VERY inconsiderate of them to not even check if you were ok

My cousins Lab bit me for no reason and took a huge chuck of flesh out all the way to the bone. I had to go to the ER get stiches, antibiotics and a tetnus shot.
I found out after that this dog had done this before and been quarenteened for 10 days. That's all that was done this time also.
I'm sorry you got bit

Re: The dog bit me - RANT!!
You know, I just don't understand people. Our dog is generally okay. By this, I mean she is usually good but every once in a while gets weird. Ex: we had some friends over with children and she was fine most of the day with the kids playing with her, sitting in her water bowl, playing with her food, etc. A few times she started to look nervous and I just put her in her crate. Then at the end of the night, she snapped at my friends son (you know who you are ). Although my friend was great about it (she didn't break skin), I was so upset, put Misty back in her crate and now she stays in her crate every time we have company.
I never can understand how people are so nonchalant about a dog biting. I bet they wouldn't be so blase if they were slapped with a lawsuit.
