The Dream Feed

Is the best thing in the world!! Chat Icon Now I can control how much sleep *I* get!!

Yael sleeps a good 7-8 hour stretch and then gets up for a 15 minute nibble and back down for 4-5 hours.

Problem is, the 7-8 hour stretch starts at like 7pm, so I don't get the benefit of it, and by the time she wakes up at 3am or 4am, it's IMPOSSIBLE for me to fall back asleep, so even though my baby is STTN, I'm only getting 4 hours of sleep!

So for the past two nights I decided to dream feed her right before bed, around 11pm, and she took to it! So now she and *I* have been sleeping a solid 7/8 hours until the morning. And then back down for another 4 hour nap while Mommy works out and takes care of all the errands

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh... mama's happy Chat Icon

I used to do that with Jordana- so many years ago. I'd go to sleep at 11, and DH would feed her before he went to bed, around 12:30- and bam- sleeping through till 6-7.

Re: The Dream Feed

please explain to me how this works....how do you dream feed?

So you pick the child up and feed them? Then what? do you burp them?

I just don't see how a child will eat if they are asleep, I have to wake KJ up to eat when it is time if he is sleeping

No, I BF her. First night it took a good 5 minutes to wake her up enough to start eating, but last night she took to it in her sleep so I didn't even have to wake her at all and after she was done, right back down.

First night I had to wake her up a little - I changed her diaper which stirred her and blew on her face a little as I tickled her mouth with the boob. Last night, I just picked her up, put her to the boob, she opened up and started nursing in her sleep. She doesn't need to be burped after - I read in a book that when they eat when they are sleeping they usually don't take in any air, which seems to be the case with Yael. I haven't burped her and she goes back to sleep for a good 7/8 hours.

I figure if I keep doing it, it will become habit and I won't even have to wake her - she'll just know what to do, even in her sleep, which is what happened last night.

This is what I do with Ann ... once or twice actually. I nurse her in our bed around 1AM and 4AM and then I have to get up at 4:30.

Luckily I've been able to fall back asleep (lol - sometimes during the feeding!!Chat Icon ) and since she started daycare this week, she's only stirring a bit once usually around when I need to get up anyway.

Exactly - I don't do anything to "wake her" pick her up out of the PNP and lay her next to me.

I just started doing it, and Yael is 3 months. Before about 6 weeks her sleep schedule wasn't predictable enough for it to work.

Re: The Dream Feed

I agree with you---it's great! We've been doing the dream feed too. DD goes to bed around 6:30; we dream feed at 11PM and she gets up at 6:30AM. It totally works for us too!!

I am glad that you are getting some time for yourself. Let's hope the trend continues.

Re: The Dream Feed

Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon So glad it helped! The funny thing is, I stopped doing the dream feed Chat Icon I experimented one night and decided to see how far she'd sleep without the dream feed. I guess the dream feed broke her of her 3am habit, because now she's sleeping from 8:30-6:30 every night, and then going back to sleep for another 2-4 hours! Chat Icon Chat Icon
