I am "other". I am a FTWM but I work from home. It is taking some adjustment but it is worth it!

Re: The grass is always greener poll
I am a PTWM. I work 20 hours a week, it is just enough time to have adult conversation and not miss my lil man. although, i still do miss him while I'm away. I do love it, but sometimes wish I could see my hubby more. He works 80 hours a week, so I dont have to work so hard. I LOVE HIM TO PIECES FOR THIS!

I am a FTWM and wish I was a SAHM! PT is not an otion in my career. I wish we had more $$$$ so that I could stay home for at least 2 years with my baby!

Re: The grass is always greener poll
FTWM, would love to be a PTWM but as a teacher that's not possible (and I know how lucky I am to have many vacation days and summers off).
I was a SAHM last year and loved it. Not sure I could do it forever - I enjoy working but I would love to have two days a week to take her to classes, playgroups, etc.

SAHM and love it. Honestly, every now and then I have a really insane day with the kids and I start wishing I were somewhere else. But you know what, at my old job before the kids came, sometimes I would have a really bad day at work and start fantasizing about quitting my job and staying home. So the grass really IS always greener.
exactly!!

Re: The grass is always greener poll
I never wanted to be a SAHM forever, just until my kids are in full time school.
As of now I will be taking grad classes at night. It works out great because I don't have to leave them when they are awake.
I also have been going into my moms office to help her out for some extra cash here and there, mostly during nap time.
As soon as my kids are in school I want to work 2 or 3 full days, but when they are young I really want to be home with them.
They get so big so fast and I don't want to miss anything

Re: The grass is always greener poll
My ideal would be working part-time. On LI, I have no choice but to work FT.

Dude where is the other??
I am a FTWM. I love it! BUT, I wouldn't mind being a PTWM. That is my "other" answer.
ITA!
I don't love or hate being a FTWM. I like to work and would prefer to work part time. But I don't HATE working FT either.

Re: The grass is always greener poll
I am so glad that there are so many SAHMs that love it. All I ever hear IRL is SAHMs complaining - and I don't mean venting here and there, I mean constantly complaining.
Please, enjoy every single moment every moment we have with our babies is a blessing!

Re: The grass is always greener poll
I was a PTWM for the first 3 years of being a mommy (2.5 days the first year, then 3.5 days the second). This year I was "forced" fulltime. It's been an adjustment, and I wish I could be 4 days a week, but it's been OK. It certainly helps that DH is home with them 2-3 days a week, that we have an amazing babysitter the other days, and I work just 3 miles from my job.
I was a SAHM through the summer and maternity leave (5.5 months) and while I loved being home, I definitely enjoyed being a PTWM more.

I hate this, but I complain a lot, more than I really mean it.
There are a lot of FTWM in my cirlce, that have to work. I am very fortunate to be a SAHM. But I knew I would never be happy FTWM so I made a point to DH before we ever got married and we made the SAHM thing work.
I hate saying "my life is perfect", because in my circle, there are alot of FTWMs complaining about commute, and dinner, and nannies and daycare and MILs. I can't listen to it, because I feel like I solved a lot of their problems by staying at home, I just have to say, "well, when your home all day with the baby, its not easier, and there are so many problems too" - but honestly I'm really content.
I know of a PTWM, who has a FT nanny and is always complaining - I'm starting to think she does it to keep the green eyed monsters away

Re: The grass is always greener poll
I am a FTWM and will probably be a PTWM after DC#2. We think it's the perfect compromise! Granted, FT in my profession is 50-60hrs/wk so I will be doing 25-30 but the money is great so it's worth it.

Re: The grass is always greener poll
FTWM and definitely not happy about it!! We are in no position to have me be a SAHM and I cannot think of any way of being a PTWM. But I am a teacher and am grateful that I have the schedule I do and the time off is amazing. I know being a teacher is great for when the kids are also in school but I just wish it was easier for when they are this little.

Re: The grass is always greener poll
FTWM. I love my children but I enjoy the break of getting out and going to work. I would love to be a SAHM but that's no realistic for me so I try not to think too much about it. If I could choose, I'd like to be a PTWM and get to spend more time with my children.

Re: The grass is always greener poll
FTWM and I hate it! I think PTWM would be better for me. Maybe someday...sigh...I feel like I miss out on a lot and each day is like a neverending cycle of crap to do..hard trying to balance work demands and home demands...I am not happy about it. I'm struggling honestly.

I agree I work full time - 5 days but wish I could cut down to 4 days. I will probably do this in the next year or two when we can financially swing it.

Re: The grass is always greener poll
Sahm mom here and I love it. I tried working part time, but I was way too exhausted since I worked nights and I was home during the day with dd. Long day. Now that I'm home full time I thank God and my hubby everyday.

Right now, I'm a FTWM. My plan is to be PTWM or a job that will get me home by 3p/4pish.
