If it's someone else's home, I flush. But otherwise, I guess I'm in the minority.

But people are dying every day because they don't have fresh water and here we are as a country that doesn't give a second thought to flushing gallons of perfectly good water down the drain so we don't see pee. Chat Icon

I'm in the minority too. If I'm at someone else's house or we have guests, I flush every time. Otherwise we flush only a couple of times a day.

Honestly, I worked for the Water Authority while I was in college, and I learned that we waste 6 gallons of water every time we flush. I don't flush if it's just me and DH in the house. If there are other people though, I make sure to flush.

ETA: I also close the lid!

My dual flush only uses .8 gallons for pee.... Chat Icon

A 1995 Federal law dictates that new toilets can only use 1.6 gallons per flush. The 6 gallon number is from the older toilets.

We don't flush pee at night in my master bathroom because it's a loud, ancient toilet that uses a ton of water and runs forever. We definitely would if we had guests or shared a home!

We have MAJOR cesspool issues. I'm definitely the minority here. I think it's gross, but if it helps our cesspool hold out for another year or so, so be it.
(Definitely don't do this with company though.)

I guess I am in the minority but it doesn't bother me. In fact, I don't flush at night either. But I also don't share my home with anyone other than DH and DD.

Can't your DH just flush before he uses the toilet?

I do not have a problem with letting it "mellow" but I think it's an entirely different story when you are sharing your home with someone. In your case, everyone should be flushing.

Same with me. We have water meters in the kitchen and bathroom. When I see that little thing spinning around, I think of how much it will cost.

It is my and DH's pee, it's really not that bad.

I have to say, when I was preggo, I did the same thing because I didn't want to wake DS and DH

BUT we were the only ones using that bathroom!!

I would never do that if I was sharing a bathroom with anyone other than Dh and the kids

eta: I guess I'm grossChat Icon Chat Icon

in my defense though, I was the only one really using the bathroom overnight and would be the first one in in the morning to flush so no one else was exposed to my pee

I did the same when preggo but like you said it was just DH and I. DH nevers gets up at night to pee.

Typically I like it flushed, but I will admit I dont flush in the middle of the night if its pee, nor does DH. Reason being is that our toilets are super LOUD! I mean really loud. DS's room is right next to the main bathroom and or bathroom can even be heard from his room too. In an attempt to not wake him with sudden noise, we dont flush unless necessary. However, I rarely wake in the night to "go", and if I do it's once.

When I was preggo it was a different story.

ITA:

I grew up in the middle of one of the biggest droughts in Florida history. I grew up with the whole mellow yellow ideal. The downstairs toilet is always flushed just in case people stop in. But upstairs, where only we use the toilet...

I also shut the water off when I brush my teeth, can NOT run a 1/2 load of wash, 1/2 dishwasher, etc. But it's just how I grew up/

Re: The "if it's yellow let it mellow" debate

When DH and I lived in our own condo, would let it mellow overnight as not to wake DD. But now that we are living at my parents' house, I flush all the time. We are downstairs and no one would hear it upstairs.

But in regard to OP, if sharing a home with others, I would totally flush. This is totally different circumstances. You behave differently in LOTS of ways when you live with others aside from your spouse.

I am neurotic and like the toilet seat lid down at all times when not in use after reading an article that microscopic fecal matter is flung from the toilet onto your toothbrush and other things when you flush with the lid up so since then it must be down at all times and even though it took some getting used to on their part they have agreed to cater to my craziness and close it

I don't buy into that theory - unless you are keeping your toothbrushes on the toilet, which I assume you are not

ETA - I don't care either way about the flushing of the pee since it is DH and I

The more I think about it, why can't you just flush the toilet in the AM?

I am not grossed out by pee...I would tell them that if they aren't going to flush, to keep the lid closed and then just flush in the AM.
