The nook and the library
Can somebody please explain how you can "borrow" digital books from the library with the nook?
Do you have a certain time limit to read it?

Re: The nook and the library
Let me know if you want more specific instructions, but basically you go to the library's electronic catalog on their website and checkout an ebook in .epub or .pdf format. Download to your computer via Adobe Digital Editions. Move to your Nook via the USB cable.
As far as time, it depends by library. Nassau libraries give you 14 days. I also belong to New York (Manhattan) Public Library and Philadelphia Free Library ($15 annual non-resident fee) and I can pick 7 days, 14 days or 21 days. If I finish the book early I can return it through Adobe Digital Editions so that the next person waiting for the book can borrow it.
All NYS residents can get cards from New York Public Library, Brooklyn Public Library and Queens Public Library but you need to go in person to activate the card. The more libraries you belong to the easier it can be to get the book you want, especially popular ones.

Does the book disappear off your device once the lending period is over?

No, but you can't open it.

Re: The nook and the library
Thank you! I want to buy it for a gift for someone. I'm not sure that this person would be able to handle the transfers.
