I wish everyone would stop attacking the Romney supporters. Just because someone's opinion isn't popular, doesn't mean it should be attacked. I don't even bother explaining myself anymore because I don't think I should have to. I am voting for who I want to vote for, and i don't care who anyone else is voting for. Why does everyone voting for Obama feel they have to prove something to those who are not voting for him? It is not like our vote matters here in New York anyway!
ITA with this. I think this is partly how Obama got elected and may get reelected. Too many people really glorify him being the first black president, as well as the democratic "change" from republican Bush (and Romney lumped in to that now as well). I seriously think no matter how this man does, what he says, etc, too many people want to jump on the Obama train b/c they just equate him being BLACK and DEMOCRAT as the best choice for anyone who is not a "rich, white old man".
Goobster, as you often do here on LIF, you seem to have somehow made your way inside my brain and expressed exactly what I was thinking!

go back and READ what I wrote...ALL OF IT. not just the one sentence you choose to twist to fit your needs to promote your own political agenda...
IMO, when you posted that birth certificate comment, I totally dismissed you. Sorry.
I´m a total socialist, but in some strange way I can understand Romney supporters, with regards to the economy, but I can´t understand the rest.
But when the birth certificate cräp starts, I just can´t. Such nonsense. And to Mrs if it´s yellowletitmellow, that´s why you are getting people not reading your posts.

And way too many people are jumping on the Romney train because he is a "rich, white old man". There is still so much racism in this country and THAT is a big reason why I'm afraid Romney will get elected. Actually I think this is the FURTHEST thing that is going on here. To say Obama's race somehow held him down seems like a huge stretch to me. HE WON, he is the president. What more proof does anyone need to believe race didn't "negatively" effect him in the election? On your theory, why didn't Mc Cain win over Obama then, if racism is such a big issue?
It's a huge milestone in history for him to be the first black president. And people who probably NEVER voted came to vote for Obama simply b/c of this historical vote. Just seems like a huge stretch to me to play the race card in a way that Obama is HELD down, vs raised up, by his race.
Actually reverse racism is the bigger issue here IMO.

Actually I think this is the FURTHEST thing that is going on here. After all, OBAMA was elected, may be reelected, and so how can anyone even remotely believe racism could be playing a role against Obama? Racism goes BOTH ways and wayyyy too many people are voting for Obama simply BECAUSE he is black. He did win, correct? I believe Obama won and may win again BECAUSE of REVERSE racism. It goes both ways.
On your theory, why didn't Mc Cain win over Obama then, if racism is such a big issue?
I think if he is re-elected it will be because so many people, myself included, believe in our President. Believe in his values, his ideals, his policies, that he is a great President. And to say that he is going to be re-elected because of race is ridiculous.
And are you suggesting that the ONLY reason that Obama won, was because he's (half) black? I'm sorry but I refuse to believe that 70 million people voted for him because of his race. And McCain likely lost because he had an imbecile as a running mate.
I agree it does go both ways. And it's disgusting. The comments I read on conservative websites or from people I know (and now have distanced myself from) related to Obama's race and apparent religion are disgusting. And anyone who votes solely on race is an idiot.

I think Obama won b/c he was a "Change". A change of party, a change of color, a change in age, a change all around. That's what I believe. Not b/c he was necessarily qualified for the job or the best for the job.
As I said above, I won't speak for you or why you vote the way you do. But there are absolutely people who will vote for Obama simply b/c he is black. Sure, just as some people will vote for any candidate OVER Obama b/c he is black. But it's such a historical change, a black president, that you will have many many more people voting for Obama b/c he is black, than people voting against Obama for whatever white candidate, b/c they are white.
Let me put it another way....you will have many many WHITE people vote for Obama. But how many black, or non-white people will vote against Obama (even if they don't think he has done such a great job)? So racism against Obama seems like a very small minority to me. Of course I dont know actual numbers but I do know HE WON. The crazy man in the pic you posted, he is quite the minority I presume. Just like crazy Obamaphone lady is the minority of voters, I would certainly HOPE.
Oh, just read about McCain. Oh yes, I am quite sure his running mate wasn't the historical change many wanted either. For various reasons as well, other than simply lack of qualification.

Does the poster making fun of your name not know about the soda that was called Mellow Yellow? Which is what I believe your name is based on, correct?
Well, one of my dads nicknames for me has always been Melo or Mimi but when he would call me melo he would sing the song "they call me mellow yellow" by Donovan (which was also used in marketing for the soda). When I was about 17-18 I started designing cigar box purses and embellished handbags and i had to come up with a business name...so I used Meloyellow as an homage to both my dads nickname and the song / soda because I also happen to LOVE the design and marketing for both the album cover and the soda. I no longer design bags but Meloyellow has stuck ever since.

I used to like the soda as a kid. Will never forget it. Here is a pic, for anyone who doesn't recall.
Just youtubed and yes, I recall the song now.

Re: The Official LIF 3rd Presidential Debate Thread!!!
in regards to the racism aspect...I honestly think the recession as well as the election has taken us a few steps back in regards to racism...but in both directions.
I think everybody is so stressed about the economy and whats going on with the state of our country that they are looking for someone to blame. People will say "oh...the black people will vote for obama just because he's black" and we've seen this has truth to it and even in significant numbers...there ARE alot of African American people who when asked about obamas policies they have NO CLUE where he stands...but they'll vote for him because they identify with him and believe he is on their side because to them "he is one of them". Thats not true for every Every African American person though. media like this doesn't help:
Totally Biased - The Harlem Panel
On the flip side you have white people who just can't handle a black person in power over them. It scares the bejeezus out of them. They'll vote for the white guy just because they identify with him and believe he is on their side and they don't want black person in a position of power. This is not the case with all white people...I think we've all seen there are plenty of white people who voted and will continue to vote for obama. this media doesn't help either:
It goes both ways and it always has. that being said I feel the tension and media is creating the perfect storm to rekindle racism and pit people against eachother
ETA: and then you have the people in the middle with some common sense who make decisions based on platform, facts, feelings, personal experience...regardless which way they lean...their vote is based on the belief that the person they are voting for supports their best interest.

Re: The Official LIF 3rd Presidential Debate Thread!!!
Quite honestly, the problem with ALL candidates and most politicians is they only have their own interests at heart. Those of you who don't think racism is at play here can go down to the south and experience it. And it is not just against blacks! Lets be real - everyone is blaming Obama for things but quite honestly, we have a checks and balances system in place to make sure 1 person doesn't hold all the power. If you all think that Obama is the only reason for these problems, you are obviously misinformed. I NEVER see any debates here on the senators or congress people....or even on anyones state representatives. THEY are more to blame IMHO. Obama is just ONE person. Quite honestly, this system worked in the 17 and 1800's when it was first established. We REALLY need to revisit our constitution and make some changes (such as term limits) because THAT is the real problem.

I want to respond to this. Based on what I have seen Romney supporters are not being attacked. Posters who use propaganda, lies, and uncredible sources and present them as fact are being questioned and called out on.
I do not feel it is right to attack Romney supporters at all. I personally like to hear their views and beliefs, I do not expect everyone to think the same way I do and I think that it can be very informative to hear the other sides opinions.
Unfortunately LIF seems to be a majority of Obama supporters so based on sheer numbers I can see how the perception would be that Romney supporters are being attacked but I have not seen this done, what I do see is people who question posters who utilize fiction as fact, that IMO should be called out, that is not bullying.

ITA. I have been one of those questioning and I don't mean to attack and certainly don't mean to bully, however I do think that voting and choosing a candidate should be an informed decision. So, when I hear arguments that utilize and propagate misrepresentations and sometimes blatant lies I will not sit idly by. I have friends, whom I respect and care for, who are voting for Romney. These are intelligent people making informed decisions about their vote and I respect that.

I am WELL aware of that. But people who have never voted before, in record numbers, voted for Obama. That's the difference between simply voting democratic and Obama's election.

I agree. I'm an independent and don't really like either candidate, but I do lean more towards Obama. None the less, I think that there should be a little more tolerance on here.

Tolerance goes out the window when people post blatant propaganda and lies as factual information and continue to argue these lies and propaganda with the facts right in front of them. I have no tolerance for that kind of stupidity.

There have been several people responding to your false claims with facts and you STILL refuse to accept them. Why anyone would waste their time trying to refute your biased conspiracy theory websites I don't know.
what websites? what websites have i posted? what was false besides the birth certificate...stop dancing around and tell me specifically. and don't try to disprove it by citing a leftist website either.
I talked about my husband being out of work for a year and a half and union plumbers having over half their workers out of a job...was THAT false?
I talked about how i didn't like that obama sent canned responses to military families who lost loved ones...was THAT false?
I talked about how I don't like that he makes so many public appearances and how he snubbed the UN general assembly to be on the view and how it was irresponsible...was THAT false?
I talked about how he LIED about Libya...that wasn't proven false the only arguement brought up to refute that was "it's hard to know whats what in a situation like that" and "we have alot of balls to expect the government to give us all the information on security details"....opinion...nothing proven false about what i said.
.....?????
eta:
since I'm sure you're all scrolling through to "find some dirt" to support your claims on all of my "false" information...let me help you
I started by posting links re: specific instances where russia recently posed a threat to the US bc obama scoffed at romney during the debate recalling romney as saying russia was our biggest threat. Romney claimed Obama was misrepresenting him but i posted those links to show that he wasn't exactly off the mark if he did say that. no falsifications there.
The next thing I said was about the bayonets and how bayonets ARE currently used in the military...so i didn't agree with obama's little joke or zing comparing ships to horses and bayonets. Some people argued that thats not what obama meant...thats fine...I also stated it was a "silly little tidbit not at all important in the grand scheme of the debate" but this is more of a subjective issue depending on how you took obama's comment...he may or may not have meant it as a comparison to mean that ships are as obsolete as horses and bayonets...whatever...subjective...not important
I engaged in discussion re: how i felt obama definitely lost votes among naval populated areas like VA with the ships comment...this is opinion...but probably / most likely true seeing as though media reported it immediately that that comment struck a sour note with naval forces and could hurt him
i then posted my personal beliefs on why i can't vote for obama...which included the 1st part of this post in which YES I did throw in a comment asking "what the heck was up with that joke of a birth certificate with all the photoshop layers?" someone posted a snoped site that even had a few videos to refute. I watched 1 of those videos, read the info and thanked the poster, stating i'd like to try it again and see what that person is seeing since it had been so long. This was about the part where the name calling and obama supporters were on the defensive. I explained that I wasn't concerned so much with citizenship but since i had seen the claims that it was fake and I myself did see the layers which at the time they said there was NO SCANNING PROGRAM CAPABLE OF DOING what the snopes debunking video attributed to scanning programs...I questioned why if they were going to elect to put out his birth certificate (which they didn't have to) why they would put something that was so blatantly false. There is more information now that I was not aware of (sorry I was busy having a baby and being a first time mom to check up on this for more than the month that I did) and I acknowledged that info and said i was grateful for it.
so let's see...what else ya got?
yup...lies and propaganda...and yet not one of them will respond to this.

I will respond.
As much as you would like st strike the birther stance from the record you cannot. You believe that he has a fradulent birth certificate. This was put out there by Donald Trump, a reality TV star, this source is not credible. Lie, Propaganda.
You claimed Obama was playing golf WHILE Bin Laden was being executed, when a source was produced indicating this was untrue you said the source was not credible (so snopes is not credible but Donald Trump is? )
I could continue bc there were several other of your points that were fabricated and not credible but there is no point, you will spin this, say you are being picked on and spoken to condescedingly and then post some more propaganda, this post along with others prove that is your MO.
I am a firm believer that if EVERYONE around you takes issue with what you are doing YOU are the issue, not EVERYONE else.

you're wrong...and anyone who can read knows it, you're twisting my words again. He WAS on the golf course even while knowing this was going on was what i said. This was PROVEN TRUE by your own link! I questioned why that was his priority. obviouslly he wasnt on the golf course WHEN osama was murdered...there is a photo to prove that BUT he absolutely was on the golf course before heading to watch osama be killed on screen.
the birther thing is and it's the same group of ladies who keep after i explained myself a million times. Why? because you support obama and you insist your position is right...so of course you'll continue to cling to that.
please do continue...bc you haven't addressed any of what i stated above?
also, contrary to what you believe it's not EVERYONE who takes offense to what I said...it's clear to see it's actually more like a handful of girls who keep coming back and repeating the same thing over and over even after I've clarified my position.

Re: The Official LIF 3rd Presidential Debate Thread!!!
I won't even touch the birther thing because it's ridiculous. it's a position I cannot respect for MANY reasons, and anyone who even mentions it at this point makes their credibility go down in ym eyes. You probably don't care. That's fine.
As far as the golf course thing, no one is disputing facts. Obama did go to the golf course that day, but it was shown that there was a strategic reason for this. He didn't go play golf because he didn't care that our SEALS would be in danger, but to keep up the facade of calm so as not to show their hand. I don't really see what there is to criticize there.
People often tie that argument to saying Obama has spent so much time on vacation. I think he's taken about 1/4 of the vacation George W Bush did in his first term and remember that Bush's first term started with the 9/11 attacks and ended with us in 2 wars. If anyone shouldn't have taken vacation, it was him. But at any rate i think it's ridiculous for people to criticize the president for taking vacation or going golfing. I definitely want the person making the kind of decisions a president makes to have a clear head. Working 24/7 isn't going to yield better results. And you can bet the president realy is working 24/7, getting security briefs you and I will never hear about.

I refuse to explain the birther comment again...it's been beaten to death already...choose to read my explanation and understand where I was coming from or don't...but in regards to vacations... his 1st year seemed to be alot of vacations...you don't really see too much of that anymore. It's not that i think he's not entitled to a vacation...it's how extravagant they were and the separate jets being taken. I just can't help but think of all the families in crisis who can't afford a vacation and we sit here looking at photos of the family on african safari and michelle obama on a shopping spree. Trust me...I'm not handing any bouquets to bush...but our economy is even worse now. it's not just the vacations though...it's the tv appearances. skipping the UN general assembly to be on the view is irresponsible when you represent a country that is in our current state. I hear what ur saying about keeping up a facade but it sounds like a cop out and i can't help but feel there are better things he could be doing. thats my opinion and if someone doesn't agree...thats fine...but everything is subjective...don't attack me bc i don't believe he's the same great leader you do (not you specifically...but those that continue to attack my views in a rude and childish way)
